Lunenburg used theirs last Feb when a woman was missing in the Hickory Hills area. Among the practical instructions (requests) were to keep your dogs secured - indoors if possible. After many hours the missing woman was found, and definitely would have perished without the Search & Rescue.
And their 911 Operators STILL got a c-r-a-p load of calls after the reverse 911 call went out. All from people who had NOTHING to do with the incident. Many from people nowhere near the incident area.

Surprised the Leominster PD doesn't encrypt/scramble their
police radio transmissions. A lot of Cities and Towns are doing this to prevent criminals from listening in on
radio calls.

BIG mistake ever leaving your door unlocked, And by the way, when I do come callin what in GODS name makes you think I wont have a gun already in my hand.

I never said I wouldnt assume you had a gun...matter of fact, quite the opposite. But that really is irrelevant. What I said was it would be a big mistake to try to break into my house when I am home, and I meant it. But that really is irrelevant. Oh, and BTW...GOD has nothing to do with it.

If a 6 year old child doesn't listen to you when you tell them to stay in the yard YOU ARE A FAILURE AS A PARENT. Maybe if you weren't spending your day reading the S&E blog and updating your facebook you would know where your kids are.
Haha, if that aint the pot calling the kettle black. I love when people bust other people for reading/writing on a blog...that they themselves are doing. Facebook is for children. And your obviously not a parent if you think ANY 6 year old ALWAYS listens to their parents....like I said Assssss Hat

It's common sense something is going on when you see police, helicopters, etc.

Why would anyone want to run around like the headless chicken and interrupt officers trying to protect you? Their focus is on the safety and catching the criminals, not to appease your anxiety.

So lock your doors and wait it out. When it's safe you'll find out.

I am a police dispatcher and I'll tell you, when there is a serious incident and we're busy - it is darned aggravating to get calls from Nervous Nellies and the press, pressing for details right now.
"Too Funny" and "Spike" make the point nicely, and it really IS hard not to be sarcastic here but I'll refrain and just remind you... during critical incidents my attention is and should be fully towards public and officer safety, and not on satisfying your curiousity.
You are so right. Freda once again off the wall. We are adults who should know that if the cops are everywhere something is going down and YOUR DOORS SHOULD BE LOCKED AT ALL TIMES ANYWAY! Curious about what's going on? Get a scanner.

The reason the State Police were there was because Leominster really doesn't have all that many cops and fewer dispatchers to do their job. A manhunt like that takes a lot of resources that the city doesn't have. So since they are already straining to get the job done, why make it harder by asking the cops what's going on? You may just be curious but if 50-100 people are curious it turns into a press conference not a manhunt and bad guy gets away.

Yes, seeing Police helicopters and Officers in the woods is scary. That's good. It reminds us we don't live in Utopia and bad stuff happens around us all the time. Take the time to prepare and make YOURSELF as safe as possible. What would the reaction be if the police simply said "We had a burglary and could have caught the suspects, but we didn't want to scare anyone so we let them go".

Then again you are the responsible one who let's your 6 yr. old wander around town. If there was a dangerous situation where you had to lock your doors you could always have a key hidden or when the kids ring the doorbell you could stop stuffing your fat face with Twinkies and HO HO's and let them in.(you started the insults)

Did you not see the get the kids inside and then lock your doors?
Good Lord... this story is unreal. It says right off the bat that he is listening to his police scanner. Start calling the neighbors and tell them to lock their doors!!! How simple!!!
Does anyone really look up, see a police helicopter and say oh how nice of you to drop in? It is the police!!! They are there for a reason.... you don't have to know why.
BTW... if it is a lost child you will see police, fire and emt's.

Tell me if I am wrong- but aren't YOU dispatchers also public servants- working also for the people of the city you are employed in? If so, then you should quit you b*tching about having to answer a few questions from the public. I bet there are a bunch of other people that are able to use a telephone and radio console to take your CITY EARNED PAYCHECK job. Doersnt take a rocket scientist.

911 is not for asking questions such ad "why is there a state police helicopter over my neighborhood" and "is school cancelled today". Lots and lots of dumb people who dint know what 911 is for.
