Did the councilers not read the contract before they voted? How was the clause "hidden"?

Why would anyone vote in favor of a contract without first educating themselves about all it's details? If this so called "clause" was so well hidden then doesn't that now make that contract null and void because it was negotiated in "bad faith". It's very easy to see why Fitchburg is struggling so much financially. From the Mayor down through the city council the leadership in the city is extremely incompetent. Instead of pointing fingers maybe they should consider reopening negotiations or threaten more layoffs.

Why don't we ask our City Councilors for answers to jdf and Fitchburg Native's questions and see if any of them will respond? Councilors your response?

What is amazing that with the city nearly broke, there are people in City Hall trying to spend right up to the end of the Mylott administration.

Yet Mayor Doddering Danny Mylott still thinks he's a conservative. Somehow people think that this is something new, but in reality there is nothing new. I would bet that the Police Department got the same contract. Yet Mayor Doddering Danny Mylott is backing such contracts.

Mayor Dan H. Mylott, who negotiated the contract, defended the clause that provides an extra week of vacation to 32 firefighters, which can either be sold back to the city for a week's worth of pay or go unused. They may not actually take the vacation time off from work, according to the contract.

Now what idiot is going to NOT take another week of paid vacation, and sell it back to the city?

I know these are firefighters and that these people are heros, but at that price, when the city is broke, one loses hero worship to anything in this economic environment.

Shame on Mayor Doddering Danny Mylott!

receivership is coming!!!. Neither Lisa Wong nor Vera Wang can save this S#*t hole formerly known as Fitchburg. Soon enough Mylott will be back measuring mens inseams at Shacks, a job much more fitting for his skill set.

The lack of feedback from any of the city council members about reading the contract before they approved it is disappointing, but not unexpected. The huge victory that Lisa Wong had over a well-liked long term City Councilor should have told the council that the voters also hold them responsible for this mess. Do they still not understand this? Those who were re-elected in the last election need to understand that if they do not become part of the solution, their recent re-election will be their last.

Obviously they did NOT get the message. What is really appalling is that Annie DeMartino, who was Mylott's last real competition, she talks a great game, but it seems that all she did in office prior to this article is basically "enable" the stupidity of Mayor Doddering Danny Mylott.

What Fitchburg will get with Lisa Wong, is a young person, who is willing to send the message "This isn't your Father's Fitchburg." That type of thinking is what got Fitchburg into the mess it is in now. This isn't 1977, this is 2007 Mylott!

Also everytime I met Dan Mylott, you could see that this man, if he didn't already have, is a candidate for Alzheimer's Disease. He is so increadibly out of touch with reality in Fitchburg, and as the editor of this paper had said, he does things his way with no real idea of what is going on.

Unfortunately, there are too many people on the Council that cannot understand, that Fitchburg isn't what it used to be.

Cousin Ralph: I don't think Doddering Danny Mylott will be able to do that. The guy is one foot towards having Alzheimer's Disease, and if you don't believe me, how is it that he would give such a lucrative contract, while the city is one foot short of bankruptcy?

I think it would be better if they sent him to McDonalds, so he would have to say "want fries with that?" That way he can see what the common folks in Fitchburg do, and how is stupidity effects them.

The people who have invested in this "great city" have all been watching that investment deteriorate at an alarming rate under the leadership of an incompetent political group that have driven the city onto the doorstep of receivership. Residents have very good reason to be upset and they expressed their anger in the polling booths. The Police are without a contract and giving away a contract bonus to Firefighters after laying off 80 employees is just one example of the continual political abuse of taxpayers money. Raising taxes, cutting services and raising fee after fee on taxpayers will not cover the debt they have and continue to create.

For one thing Jonny D', I am a Fitchburg Native, and have lived twice in Fitchburg,(latest from 2000-2007), and I have been APPALLED at how bad the city is.

When you read of the crime in the city, and a city government, that has been screwing the works for SO, SO long, that if you have lived there, you need to stand up against the city itself.

As Fitchburg gets to be nothing more than a slum ridden cesspool, and you see city government just going through the motions for their own political gain, it takes people who speak out against these people. With the people who wrote in favor of Lisa Wong, it sent a message loud and clear. The old days...ARE OVER!

Baron have u ever been to Springfield? I have never seen someone use the same three word so many times, without justification(slum ridden cesspool).I know u are a capable of better, and have made other astute statements. do you live in a slum ridden cesspool?i don't live in a slum ridden cesspool. and 20 or so friends and family have made homes and lives here and they don't live in slum ridden cesspools. Mirror pond at coggshall, is that a cesspool?cuz if it is, than i like cesspools! now i have beat that horse, can u now see how stupid that sounds. "lisa wong is on her way,but all the unions will have there day"there will be good change with her,and the council look forward, but not thru rose colored glasses.

Well Jonny D, I happen to remember a day, when you could walk down Main Street, when it had stores you could go to and as a kid, you didn't have to worry about a homeless sex offender wanting to do something to you, or that someone was going to hold you up for drug money, or that you would have to see a group of people on welfare waiting for a hand out.

That is the Fitchburg I knew from 1966-1985. Unfortunately, you have drugs, prostitution, drinking establishments with drug users, and sex offenders running around the downtown area.

Now, personally jonny d, from what I have heard, and read about Springfield, it isn't a really great place, and with the large number of people who are speaking a totally given language, it would seem that there are a LARGE number of undocumented illegals running around. So please do me a favor (and please try writing in a way that doesn't show your street mentality), don't try to tell me that Springfield is any better/worse than Fitchburg. In fact, if Springfield cleaned up it's act, and busted a few illegals out the city...Fitchburg's problem would be cut by a quarter.

In your own words...cuz dude, they are both..rundown slum cesspools. If you can't figure that out, turn off the ghetto blaster and see what is going down (without being caught up in it), and start telling it like it is. Apparently from what I have read of you...you don't know JACK!
