Someone turn Rosemarys hearing aid up! You are horrified that the Mayor spent $5,000 -$10,000?

Were you horrified when Tasca admitted he stole atleast $5,000 ? Are you at the least concerned that he stated that "all the administration for years " have been using weeks or months of this MEMORY KEPT TIME?

Rosemary are you "HORRIFIED" at the fact that the books have been being cooked for years under false accounts??????

Councilor-at-large Rosemary Reynolds said she was "horrified" that time and money was spent on investigating Tasca for using the comp time.
Rosemary you are one of the ones whom allowed this to get to this point!

If someone ILLEGALY uses tax payer money, they should be fired. Its called the Family Medical Leave act, Tasca should have used that and not fleeced the rest of us.

People seem to forget quickly, the city has been ripe for picking for decades, and is probably one of reasons it's in the position it is today. Money stolen from city hall, Money stolen from the Airport, and the list goes on.

The long time politicians cannot escape responsibility for not having oversight, and finally someone is addressing the corruption in the city.

It will probably take a Federal investigation to turn the city around as it simply runs too deep, and at this rate it will take years to weed it out.

At least this is start....

This is the smartest response yet. If his child was sick, which is very sad, he should have taken FMLA. Last week we read a lot about the FBI getting involved. Why then would we need to have a private investigation done?? I can see paying a lawyer for legal fees but this story has more to tell.

This investigation has raised issues of widespread corruption; there is probable cause now to request the Federal Bureau of Investigations to come in and investigate and audit.
I encourage all to contact these members of the city council. They seem to be from a different planet! Jim makes a great comment: They have had oversight for years!
Write the Justice department; write the FBI office out of Boston. They will listen and they will investigate. Corruption has been revealed! When the city council disregard criminal activity when it is admitted to them then it is time for them to go! Contact the FBI!
Time for a complete audit

I believe that it was the smartest route to take for the Mayor. The Investigation has proven probable cause to request the assistance of the Fedaral Bureau of Investigations. Now the Mayor can present actual results and testimony. There is now CLEAR evidence of corruption. They have account names that were used; they have the illegal source. This is a clear case of "cooking the books". Everyone that is involved in this case is obligated to report this to the FBI. The FBI is the official investigative force that deals with Government corruption. They have the expertise.

Where are the internal controls in this situation? Why did the City pay for something that they are now saying was illegal? Who is overseeing the payroll? Shouldn't this discussion have taken place before the check was written?
It seems like this went on for a while before it was questioned. The oversight and approvals of the payroll sounds like the real question here.
Here again is an issue with internal controls in Fitchburg's financial dept.
Tasca was overseeing the payroll, how's that??

Officially at one point he was overseeing the entire department. Otherwise he should not have been near books; if he was, then there is all kinds of easy evidence to find. Accountants take an oath and have to answer to the feds if they "cook the books". Embezzlement is the process of "converting" accounts that produce Cash out of one end(via a paycheck).
The Mayor should respond to these council members on their remarks. I am glad that the paper has printed their foolish comments that co-sign Tascas stealing! Shame on them!!

Internal controls

Again I ask, where are the internal controls? The auditor, the treasurer, the mayor. Many people see the payroll before it goes out the door. A dept. head can't be the only person who is allowed to approve his own pay. If that's the case, it's a very weak system of controls.

you said it all !! as far as the fmla; some people such as a worker that approached me on friday told me he has cancer and is taking vacation time to go to doctor's appts. that he will save the fmla for any long term he might need. family massachusetts leave covers appts. and both are at no pay. If he has the vac or comp time and is using that first instead of trying to hoard it then he is being honest. To use vac time that he will never get back is commendable on tasca's part.

City, you use many names! You know how to change the isp address. I don't use different names! Sometimes as others do I'll use a phrase! Have you ever visited their site? They have 102 legal sections that thy persue. The second one is Governmnet corruption task force. They conduct investigations into corruption within Police departments. They specialize in accounting fraud; such as cooking the books!
You seem to have a vested interest in this case. The FBI conducts audits all year round! They deal with criminal behavior such as Tascas and others on a regular basis. They'll be able to tell you exactly how much has been embezzled! There are many officers involved.
Hey city how is your side kick seriously doing? Look in the mirror and ask him.

Are you aware that Tasca used "mind kept time from 2001" for two weeks pay? Did you listen to him when he stated "we have used this time for years!LMFAO Then they put it under other accounts! Google words like "embezzlement,Grand Larceny,Missapropiation of funds and violation of sworn oath"!!

Tasca is a criminal . He got caught stealing; he may not be the best thief and he may see himself confessing on "the dumbest criminal" show.

Forensic accountants combine their knowledge of accounting and finance with law and investigative techniques to determine whether an activity is illegal. Many forensic accountants work closely with law enforcement personnel and lawyers during investigations and often appear as expert witnesses during trials.
