Maybe she can ditch the lawyer she bought with public safety money last november.. Rather have it spent FOR REAL public saftey..not covering her butt! Oh but that would be a public safety issue for her.

How about she re-hires the same civilian dispatchers she let go for "savings" by putting officers behind a desk ! What a waste ! She continues to make mistake after mistake and then goes back trying to fix a problem she created. A city is only as good as it's leadership.....She is a very poor leader to say the least. I've heard people on here say " at least she's trying new things" , my response to that is , she's expiermenting with tax payers money. Thats just not acceptable, and boarderline reckless !

She wasn't in office when the dispatchers were cut. Blame that one on the prior administration

They can easily cut staff down to 30 officers and still be able to safely patrol the city.

It really is a shame that this nation has allowed the police and their powerful unions to have the ridicules amount of control that they now have. Instead of the Taxpayers and the Politicians telling the police and their unions how things should work; we now have the police and their unions telling us how things work.

A great example of what I am saying is the subject of the amount of time off that each and every cop gets paid each year. This time off comes in the way of personal time; vacation time; holiday time; sick time; and my personal favorite: job related injury paid time off. The cops milk that one for all it's worth; and anything and everything qualifies as a job related injury in the world of our fuzz.

As I have pointed out previously on Fitchburg Topix Forum more than once; the average Fitchburg cop recieved nearly 60 paid days off; in the year of 2005; as proven by the police report. That is nearly 3 months off with pay; folks!

It's time to reel in the amount of paid time off that this crowd has legally extorted out of us through their relentless union demands. The amount of paid days off that this bunch receives is clearly out of touch with reality; and is not the norm in the private sector.

If we need more cops out on the streets; how about the idea of using the cops we already have on our force? If all of them lost a full months off of paid time off; they would still be receiving plenty of time off anyway. And, we would have more cops serving the public. Needless to say; the police overtime budget would also be drastically reduced because we wouldn't be paying overtime pay to the cops filling in for the absent cops.

I am sick and tired of reading how we aren't properly funding the PD; while the police are giving us the shaft. We throw plenty of money at the police buget already. But, due to the generous retirement packages; the insane amount of paid time off; and the fat paychecks; the money just doesn't go far enough.

The police and their unions have all of us bending over and reaching for our ankles; and I am sick and tired of it!

Darn, I've corrected your "police statistics" that you've posted before. Remember, when you were an expert on their salaries???
Stop shooting from the hip and spewing your venom. You seem to think these cops are millionaires, which is probably just a direct reflection on how poorly you've done in your life. I dont envy anyone that makes 50K a year, not with their job, not dealing with what they deal with.
And if you're bending over and reaching for your ankles, well, lets just say no one can make you do that unless you like it....just say'n.

Using your calculus, how about rethinking the vacation, sick, personal, paid holidays, unions and pay scale the teachers get....now there is a budget buster we workers foot the bill for while getting only 2 weeks vacation, 3 sick days and a few personal days off a year and many without unions to"protect us". We, the workers and voters, have only ourselves to blame for our plight...our complacency has put our behinds in the chopper. Kill the middle class to let the fat pigs get fatter and the bums procreate in their own squaller. Either cook or get off the stove...do something about this egregious inequity or put a sock in it. What have you done to change things for the better? If your answer is nothing, you are the problem.

Let me remind all Readers that the top 100 salaries paid out to City employees in Fitchburg for the year of 2008 were posted last year for all to see; and more then half were cops and Firefighters. And, all came in between 82 grand to 110 grand plus per year! And, that's a fact.

The cops and their faithfull supporters like to quote the base pay numbers. But, as we all know; the cops earn plenty extra with all of their stipends; the insane amount of overtime; and those police details. And, we all know it.

During the 70's when papermakers didn't want to be a cop, firefighter or teacher because the papermakers were making 2-3 times the salary. During the 80's when everyone was working at Digital and other lucrative jobs making 2-3 times as much as a cop, firefighter or teacher. Oh well. Times change and it isn't their fault that private companies have now move their operations overseas. So now the police, fire and teachers are making a decent salary after watching everyone else for years everyone is going to rain on their parade? I don't think so. Too bad.

Just curious, did it ever occur to the city council, that there MAY NOT BE any further places to cut the budget for more officers?

It seems crazy to think that all that has been said on the City Council is to cut, cut, cut, cut, and cut the budget even more. For the amount it would cost for 5 officers, that amount has been cut already 8-9 years ago from the budget.

Once money is cut from the budget, it is GONE FOREVER. It doesn't grow back like a fruit tree.

Again, either pay more for it or quit the whinning.

The biggest problem on the City Council is not the lack of money (while there is) there is a lack of brains!

WHERE HAS CONRY AND DINATALE BEEN ?? They allowed the FPD to run a COMPLETE MUCK and did nothing to control it! This is the first year where Fitchburg has shown improvement!!!!!
What we need is for DiNatale to leave, Conry to LEAVE and Kaddy to LEAVE!! These three have allowed this city to run like a field of rotten garbage!!!!!!!!!
How dare you state anything!!! These five officers have been retitred for the past ten years on the job! How dare you!!!
The fitchburg police department is stuck with a bunch of do nothing cops in the middle to the top!
The Chief is doing a great job but we are still hampered with this dead weight! We demand progress; NOT THE SAME OLD!
I will be searching out election papers for all these positions; it is about time we run things the right way!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with the mayor looking into the possibility of hiri ng civil dispatchers for both the fire and police combined!! This move would add 9 active patrolmen to the street!
Conry and DiNatale; you MUST ANSWER TO WHY YOU WANT THESE DO NOTHING JOBS TO BE FILLED! tHESE FIVE ARE INACTIVE JOBS!!
wE NEED TO realign the FPD so that it operates the way that it should. Then we can examine what positions are needed to be filled!
The problem all these years has been unaccountability. These politicians have been throwing money at the FPD without results. The more police we had the higher the crime rate!!! EXPLAIN this fact logically before we listen to what you have to say with any relevance!
Put them to the test Mayor; go ahead vote against the Mayors Budget and we will picket you out of office!!!! We have had ENOUGH with you politicians who get nothing done! Seriously!!!

All the jobs you mentioned were twice as hard as a cop job and is more dangerous and life threatening!!
