FITCHBURG -- City and state police were investigating two robberies within just over a half hour from one another Friday afternoon.

Just after 4 p.m., an apparently unarmed man walked into the BP station at the corner of South Street and Wanoosnoc Road and stole money from the cash register before fleeing on foot, according to Sgt. Jim Gilbert.

A state police K-9 team was brought in to investigate, but the track was lost. Gilbert said officers were working on a description of the suspect and were continuing to investigate Friday night.

Then at 4:40 p.m., a man reported being robbed at gunpoint on Goddard Street.

He had arranged a Craigslist deal with a man in the neighborhood and drove to Goddard Street, where the suspect robbed him of his $500 Xbox game system at gunpoint.

Gilbert said nobody was hurt in either incident, and both robberies are still under investigation.
