There is absolutley no reason that the Police Chief should be taking an unmarked cruiser back and forth to his home in Westminster. When was the last time he responded back to an incident in the City after hours?---the answer is never!

"Claire Freda also said there were too many unanswered questions to vote on the petition, and said it amounted to the council micro-managing the city." Well, Claire, I beg to differ. As a Councillor, you have a responsibility to your constituents to ensure that their tax dollars are spent wisely. If King Deano doesn't provide any data on what it's costing the taxpayers, then how do you know how big the issue really is? When we do Doyle Field or look to acquire the Plastics Museum, will you be micro managing if you dare ask "What's the actual cost?". Either do the job or resign...

Ms Chalifoux asks "Do we have anything of value to add to that conversation? There are some good checks and balances that are already part of that system." Hey Sue: YOU are the checks and balances! If King Deano can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants and noone questions him, what good is the Council? It's your job to monitor how our money is being spent. YOU vote on the budget and it's YOUR job to ensure the dollars are spent wisely. This delay tactic by King Deano is so that he can clean up the abuses that have gone on for years. How many times have we seen City vehicles at restaurants at night? At the movies? At Wal-mart on a Sunday afternoon. It's taking him some time to reassign cars / SUVs and get people to start taking their own vehicles, so that he can redo his numbers. He doesn't want to get caught in a lie... The bottom line is that he's the King and you Councillors at serfs, get used to it. If you are not going to represent the City with all your heart then just sit down, shut up and rubber stamp anything that comes your way. Save the Cable guys some videotape...

i love it when Rowlands and the hate team (which is basically him and Dumbroski) dream up stuff so they can hastle the mayor....do they not have duties to perform as city councilors?...There is only one Mayor, yet we always have a councilor or two who want to do the Mayor's job...these are usually the councilors who accomplish the least, because they get so personally about the Mayor....councilor, do your own job and mind your own council business...the voter will decide who will Manage the City....run for Mayor Mr Rowland, and stop whining...you sound like sour grapes, and nobody likes to hear sour grapes....

That is like comparing apples to oranges. There is a big difference between the checks and balances on the mayors employees and the checks and balances on spending money to purchase a building. This city council is spending too much ridiculous time on things that just really dont matter except to a very small minority and to take personal shots at people. I guess the two or three employees that take vehicles home might really make a difference in the scheme of the city budget. Personally, I could care less who takes a vehicle home, for what there driving Id feel safer walking.

Freda and Zephir finally took on the bullys and put them in there place. Freda was right last night. Glad i could see it on TV. When there is an emergency I want them to respond quickly. Please someone please let me know what Rowlands is for ? Freda and Zephir please keep up with this . Pop Shot Rowlands has seen the end of his days when he hits and runs. Go Girls. Please give Dombrowski some no doze. On TV he looks like he needs some jolt.

Welcome to the Leominster City Council spin zone. Like we need another 9 self appointed additional micro-managers. How about just one good one running the city. One good one running each of the Departments.

If they want to drive it home at night then make them responsible for maintenance and fuel. Do it be deducting a per mile charge from their paychecks. Bet they would find a different way to commute then. The reasoning about being able to respond faster in an emergency is BS too. Civilian vehicles still operate in emergencies!

Then there is the liability issue. The plates say "Offical Use Only", and "if" a city owned vehicle is
involved, say an accident, while on personal business, then there is a liability issue.

I recall an incident in Framingham a few years ago where a town owned truck was being used personal business, and was involved in a hit and run accident.

The lawyers had a field day with that one.

This is crazy, the City Council should not be involved in this issue at all. I would even go as far as to say the mayor leaves it up to dept heads to decide who should or should not take city vehicles home. This is so petty and really none of the councils business. They should get rid of the city council and just have a mayor and city manager.

I try to watch all the meetings and did see last night. I do not understand Freda's argument. It didn't look like anyone was trying to micromanage anything. It looked like Rowlands and Dembrowski were trying to find ways to save money. What's the big deal? If it is truly an emergency, then the employee should have the vehicle. If it is just a perc, then the vehicle stays put. I work hard for my money and want to save for my kid's college. I don't want my tax dollars wasted. I do not understand why everyone's not in favor of analyzing this issue. I also feel that other monies are spent unwisely.

You seemed confused. What does Freda stand for? At least Rowlands puts forth some petitions so you know what he stands for. When is the last time she put in a petition for anything? Total obstructionist.

For years votes against the mayor on everything, now votes for the mayor on everything. Real conviction on the issues! It is all about politics first, city second.

What was the brilliant question that I saw her ask last night? Can the city require employees to purchase a second vehicle? I almost fell out of my chair. What kind of question was that! What a sense of entitlement. Way to go girl, really put them in their place with that question. If you work for the city and can't get to work because you don't have a second car, no problem you can take home city vehicle.

Exactly why the citizens of Leominster sent a strong NO, NO, NO on sending her to Boston. Can you image the sense of entitlement at the state level?

Good idea, get rid of the City Council. Most of them are retired on the job anyway...

What is the problem with the mayor providing information to the council, if he will not provide information to them, who are voting for a budget, then we are in a sad state if we want answers to any question, but I am sure he will tell us that it is in the best interest of the council and the citizen, not to have this information,as we would be confused and not understand it, hopefully we dont fall for this LINE

I guess Rowlands has moved on to another issue to whine about.Maybe when his house is filling with shyt from a plugged up sewer, he will wish the DPW worker in charge of fixing it had a company truck instead of driving all the way to the garage to get it.

If the Mayor wants to start acting like a Manager then lets change the Charter to a Plan E.

That way the Council has a use and the Mayor has a keeper. Right now this guys only keeper is special interest the Kopelman and Page, LLC.

Lets get a Manager that share info, not hides it behind the smoke of a PR person (media liason....aka...spinmaster)
