Hmong New Year

Many American pilots owe their lives to these brave people who allied themselves with the Americans during the Vietnam War. They paid a dear price-genocide was practiced against them afterward by the communist "Pathet Lao" resulting in the Hmong diaspora.
Clint Eastwood's depiction of their culture was somewhat distorted and stereotypical, but he deserves applause for his movie "Gran Torino" nonetheless.
If you're lucky enough to be a friend and neighbor,(like me) and you've enjoyed their hospitality, you know that depiction is correct. They treat their American guests like royalty.
All the Hmong want to do is work hard, go to school to better themselves, enjoy family and friends, have fun, and get along. If you can, attend a New Year, and thank an old-timer for their support during the Vietnam War.
Also, enjoy the hospitality, cultural displays, and of course,(Eastwood did have this one right) the delicious Hmong food.
