Just like anywhere else it's who you know...Gardner spouts the noise that the people on the Conservation Commission and the Board of Health like to hear so the whistle when they walk by his auto graveyard. But be someone who dares to question them and they'll come down like the Furies if you even cut brush near a brook. Of course if people who have different views would get off their butts and get on these boards (and it's not easy to do, since the people doing the appointing tend to vet anyone conservative out of the running) instead of just whining, maybe things would change!
Ashby is just a mean little town...filled with people who either want to turn the clock back to 1850, whine about how tough they've got it, wish they were somewhere else, or play turtle...used to be a nice place, but almost all of those people are dead or moved on..or getting ready to move on. Too bad.

Wait a second...The guy doesn't even know how many he has in his backyard and no one sees a problem with this?? He has 6 in his home?? Are you kidding me??? I thought my husband was a packrat with tools and wood, but this guy is wayyy off...How can this be legal? We have people up the street from us that have 3 broken down cars in their yard and its a mess...All rusted and rotted...I feel sooo sorry for this guys neighbors...

Here are the facts:
He's got tons of Fiats in his yard. NOT six! Tons of printing stuff in his yard. The house is falling down. Have a look.. It's their property and they pay their taxes! Leave them alone!

His wife, who is a sweetheart, was fired before that SHI**Y monstrosity was built to replace the original library. She moved all of the original library to the Lyman Building, applied for all the grants for the addition and then was fired as not being "professional looking". She was a great librarian and you can thank all of the old time as*holes who got rid of her. One of which who lives on Jones Hill Rd. and is a teacher. I don't want my kids "learning" from this human tu*d..

Another example of under-appreciated townspeople who give their heart and soul to the town and are thanked with a f-you by better situated townspeople... Ashby is a nice town, but some of the people and ALL of the politics SU*K!

People up the street? Unless you live on Main St., Ashby, there is no street. The guy is eccentric and a dam genius. His wife is a great person. You don't like it, don't live nearby. He was there LONG before you were! Judge Not Lest You Be Judged.

The place has been a shh it hole since the 70s. long before the porch rotted off. pis sing off your neighbours is part of the american dream. there's lots of places in town that are the same way.don't tell him to clean up his yard just because he lives on main st. you need to tell all the other "hobbist" to do the same.have you driven around town lately?
Don't get me wrong,I still think the place is a shh itt hole

Fed Up With Ashby Boards wrote:
I read this article with interest. Gardner LePoer's house and yard should be wrapped in that yellow tape printed with "CRIME SCENE - DO NOT CROSS." If the Conservation Commission or the Board of Health or the Zoning Board took their charge seriously the unbelievable conditions which exist on this property would be addressed. None of the members of any of those boards give a rip!! Ground pollution?? Who cares?? Unsightly zoning mess?? Who cares?? Protection of surrounding property values?? Who cares?? Health concerns?? Who cares?? Ashby Boards need a clean sweep and some fresh members who can give that place an objective look with an eye to property values and Ashby's overall appeal. The place is a disgrace! I feel for surrounding property owners!
If you live in Ashby, get involved by becoming a board member and solve the issues of your mouth. If not, keep driving and preferably avoiding this bothersome route.

I have lived in ashby for thirty years and recall another episode concerning the unkept storage of refuse and cars on davis road. The abutting property owner took his complaints before the board of selectmen and was shot down. He had a nice well kept piece of property that he had to sell at less than what he could have received had it not been for the mess next door.I am in a similar situation with not much hope that my neighbor will EVER improve his dump-like chicken coop conversion to what he thinks is a house. You see, some people actually live like this just for the attention. It is a shame and very inconsiderate to the neighbors, neighborhood, and townspeople. There autobealaw!

I know several years ago the town of Ashby tried to pass a law limiting the number of unregistered cars any property could have and the people voted it down. I'm not sure if it was the Board of Health or Selectmen that put it to a vote, but they did try.

Perhaps they should bring it up for another vote, only this time notify ALL of the residents so the insider squeeze play is eliminated as with many "town vote" issues.

It was at a town meeting. How could anyone that lives in Ashby not know about that?? They send out those warrant article papers first so everyone should know, it's if they care enough or not to attend that seems to be the issue.

This is true however many are too busy at that time of year to attend in many instances.I was referring to the prop 2&1/2 override voting which the departments always try to get by the taxpayers.I'd like to see town meeting pushed up to june sometime and a ballot vote on most if not all town articles.

This place is a disgusting mess, period, and has been going on for much too long. I blame the powers to be in Ashby. This junkyard should not be allowed to exist.

Wow, all I can say is that this guy is AWESOME. I wish I had the toys he has and he has helped me, as well as, SEVERAL others in a the New England area. Hoarders don't give their stuff away and Gardner will HELP ANYONE who needs it, ig he has it, he will help you. And, I might add, I have been inside his warm home several times, his house is not a mess inside. He is VERY hard working craftsman who builds, renovates and repairs. I hope I have 1/4 of the enthusiasm he has when I reach his age. This man is full of heart and has helped me with repairs and parts when I can't afford them. Let the man be! and THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP GARDNER!
