"[Today]marks the 12th anniversary of the day that President George W. Bush received the infamous Presidential Daily Briefing titled "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S." [...]

"Clandestine, foreign government, and media reports indicate bin Laden since 1997 has wanted to conduct terrorist attacks in the US," the declassified version of the 2001 report reads.

What is less well known is that when George W. Bush received that intelligence briefing on Aug. 6, 2001, and was handed the "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S." memo, the then-president was on a month-long vacation at the time. After listening to the briefer, Bush reportedly replied, "All right. You've covered your ass, now." We know what happened a month later.

Exactly 12 years later, however, remnants and off-shoots of al Qaeda remain, and U.S. officials are still working to prevent additional attacks. "You've covered your ass, now" is no longer considered an acceptable presidential response to terrorist threats."

Too bad Georgie Boy didn't have ours covered!!

I agree. What's even worse is when Clinton knew where Bin Laden was and he didn't have the balls to take him out!

I've always wondered how those phone calls went.'Mr Presidet we know where Bin Laden is!'. Bill.. If you don't mind I have an intern under the desk and I'm about to pop my own rocket!'.'HILLARY make sure you don't forget to pack the silverware too! I want to loot the entire White House before we leave!'.

I'm sure Obummer will probably do the same as the Clintons did and steal everything out of the WH they can carry. It will probably be like 'Michelle make sure you roll up those Persian rugs I'll be busy in the back playing hoops with Dennis Rodman. If he wins this time he wants to be the Ambassador to China.'.

Oh I'm sorry, was the US homeland attacked and 3000+ killed on Clinton's watch or Bush?

We don't have to "wonder" anything about Georgie Boy, it's all very clear, he did nothing, stayed on vacation, and we were attacked!!

Excuse that away all you want, what was his next action? A ground War based on lies where 4000+ US soldiers were also killed, that's more than 7000 Americans killed on his watch!!!

How many Americans were killed during Clinton's Presidency?

Right, you can judge the comments all you want loser, what you can't do is answer a valid question.

What you do show is your complete bias, you "wonder" about Clinton phone calls but you have zero concern for the Bush failures that lead to and actually caused so many un-necessary American deaths.

How loud would you be screaming if a Democrat had this as a legacy!?!!?

Just go back to your obsession with a nobody, who's going nowhere in any City, it's suits your capacity well.

And, was it on US soil?

The comparison doesn't even come close, you just proved my point.

C'mon basher, who's record is worse, much worse in terms of Americans killed during their Presidency?

That's an easy one Alex Trebek, Abrahan Lincoln. Now I'll take 'Nieve posters' for $200.

Cute, funny how you simply ignore the fact that you're ignorant and really have no business piping into any discussions of things you proved yesterday that you know nothing about. But you just like to flap your gums!

People who do know what the reality is, people who care about the well being and success of this country and the people in it know the significance of all these things.

You're just a joke.

I just find it funny how people like you keep blaming Bush for everyting. There can be an earth quake in Peru and right away people like you claim Bush did it. A tsunami in Indonesia and you are like 'yep yep definately Bush did it'. Get over it already, it's 2013 and Obama is President.

yeah yeah, what I just love is you bozo's piping in with nothing valid to say about a topic, then resorting to some large number of posts because you simply cannot accept reality and would like to deflect any thought based on said realty.

The post is pertinent because yesterday was the anniversary, you don't have to like it, you don't have to comment on it, you do however have some interest in whitewashing the Bush years and so here you are doing just that.

You might just accept the post and avoid the Clinton, Clinton Clinton oh you just blame Bush for everything nonsense!

You got nothing, so say nothing, try that form once.

What I'm specifically blaming Bush for is more than 7000 American deaths, exaclty.

Either address that or STFU with your nonsene and excuses!

Yeah I get it. You blame Bush for 9/11. Whatever you do don't blame the terrorists because that would be mean. Also whatever you do don't blame those two fine young men who put the bombs at the Boston Marathon for their actions. Bush did it!

Don't get angry at me. I just call it like I see it. When 911 happened Bush was teaching kindergarden children how to read. When Benghazi occured Obama was on a golf course in Las Vegas catering to his wealthy friends and lobbyists. You do the math.

the right likes to pretend otherwise, there were terrorist attacks during Bush/Cheney's tenure -- after 9/11 -- that shouldn't be ignored. Indeed, it's a little tiresome to hear Republicans argue in effect, "Other than the deadly anthrax attacks, the attack against El Al ticket counter at LAX, the terrorist attacks against U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, Bush's inability to capture those responsible for 9/11, waging an unnecessary war that inspired more terrorists, and the success terrorists had in exploiting Bush's international unpopularity, the former president's record on counter-terrorism was awesome."

And finally, I'm not sure Republicans have fully thought through the wisdom of the "other than 9/11" argument.

the response is, in effect, "Yeah, but other than that, he kept us safe." The problem, of course, is that's roughly the equivalent of saying other than that iceberg, the Titanic had a pleasant voyage. Other than that one time, Pompeii didn't have to worry about the nearby volcano. Other than Booth, Lincoln enjoyed his evening at Ford's Theater.

It is, in other words, a little more difficult to airbrush catastrophic events from history.

I can appreciate the zeal with which Republicans want to rehabilitate Bush's poor standing, but they'll have to do better than this.
