This man does not deserve treatment. He has been a habitual offender most of his life it seems and now he has taken an innocent life. His mother raised him alone and is devastated!!! He needs to go away for a long time but that won't happen. He'll get a slap on the wrist.

i have a step son who did something similar and is going to pre trial tommorow. I wish him the most severe of term due to his lack of reesponsibility and care for the man he killed. why do we need to show the irresponsible more mercy why do they deserve it?

This man was wrong and took Paul's life. He needs treatment Ted says he will receive treatment sitting in a six by six cell. What about Paul’s family and loved ones should he pay for their treatment? Screw this guy he played and lost now go pay the penalty and I can only hope he is tormented everyday thinking about Paul the life he took. To Mr. Harland thanks for being so irresponsible and running others lives not just your. Better luck next time punk. The wrong person died that night. RIP Paul.

Hardland has a long drug & alcohol history along with driving on a suspended license. If you look at his record he finds ways to get off and avoid responsibility for his actions by utilizing some hole in the legal system. Paul was a vibrant, loving, caring, young man, a talented comedian, involved with a wonderful girl with a promising career for a very prominent company that helps people save lives every day. The loss to his family, to his friends, to his co-workers, and to this world caused by Harland is unfathomable. Yes, Harland should get treatment, and be locked up while doing it for several several years for murdering a very wonderful young man.

Unfortunately NO punishment will bring back Paul, but Paul can rest in peace knowing that the man that took him from his family and friends will suffer everyday for the rest of his lonely life, knowing that he killed someone from his stupid neglegence. I agree with the death sentence all the way, but if they don't have death penalty in Massachusetts you must believe that Brian WILL BE DEAD inside knowing he has to be on this earth facing what he has done and can do absolutely nothing to change it.

I know Brian Harland and he is a bad person. He has hurt more than Paul. It was only a matter of time before he took his life or someone elses. Unfortunately Paul has died in order so that he could learn a lesson. I hope he gets life in prison, because no prison term will ever reform him. He has gradually gotten worse through his drinking and drugs over the years. Sorry Paul's family and friends. This was an unnecessary loss of life.

I have read a few other news stories about this and all of them say just about the same thing.

what they don'y say is that he was driving about 100MPH.

A Franklin man is charged with vehicular homicide and drunk driving in Saturday's late-night fatal accident on Interstate 495 north.

Brian F. Harland, 34, of 14 Crocker Ave., was identified by police as the operator of the 2005 Ford pickup truck that struck a vehicle driven by Paul J. Rudeen, 21, of Framingham, south of Route 1A in Wrentham.
Rudeen's vehicle, a 1995 Saturn compact sedan, was thrust off the roadway, rolled over and landed in a wooded area, according to a state police investigation.

Rudeen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Harland has been charged with motor vehicle homicide, operating a motor vehicle as to endanger, operating after suspension of license, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and speeding, according to state police.

Three lanes of I-495 north were closed for about four hours as a result of the

Paul was a great friend of mine and the "wonderful girl he was involved with" was my sister Jennie. I hope this guy gets locked up for a very, very long time. This guy has shown no remorse for what he has done, has a bad history with the law and tried to leave the scene. I know he was due back in court today but I haven't heard what has happened yet.

"law", whoever you are, I think your "punishment" is a friggin' joke.
This guy is 110% at fault and is a repeat offender. His license was ALREADY suspended until 2009 and yet he stole drove...drunk.
People like you make me sick.
