I think the city will give more "status" to state officals when it comes to budget concerns, but the fact is...it won't fix the issues we face internally.

Some it will, some it won't, that is true. But I agree with you, in dealing with the state, a mayor would help. The "no I-69 improvements until 2021" thing is a good example.

So, is there really so little interest in this?

Apparently there is now a petition drive to place this question on the ballot. I believe that Greg Purvis, former Democrat candidate for Fishers Town Council, who proposed this in his council race, and State Representative candidate Joe Weingarten, are supporting this, but they also have the support of some Republicans.

Last year, various Republican members of the council would not state if they would support or oppose such a proposal, just stating that this needed to be "looked at again". I wonder what they will do now, it doesn't take a ton of signatures to get this on the ballot.

I am now told that Republican Fall Creek Township Trustee Terry Michael is supporting the petition drive, and has petitions available to sign in his office.

I also understand that the Fishers Chamber of Commerce supports placing this question on the ballot for voters to decide.

It is now clear that this has strong bi-partisan support.
