It's not just the vistors who run amuck there. The year round population except for a few,
are pill popping, cocaine using drunks, who have sex with each other's spouses. The lifestyle there is a joke. It's really a very sleazy place.
NOT THERE ANYMORE: You are correct. You bin there too.

I guess it's OK to send our tax dollars to your kind & friendly community for Ferries, fire protection, life guards, coast guard, Water, sewer, trash removal, mosqito control, animal control and lets not forget beach restoration. Let's see what Ocean Beach would be like without our support. Until you stop using my tax dollars, here I come!

The Village of OB was incorporated in the 1920's. This means that they pay for their own fire rescue, police department, water/sewer, animal control, mosquito control, etc.
Fire Island Ferries provides ferry and freight services to the Village. They don't receive any tax breaks or subsidies.
You did get one part right though, the village does apply for grant money for dune and beach projects only after they have exhausted all of their own funds.

I find it laughable to hear Mayor Loeffler talk so santimoniously about a kinder and gentler OB police dept. He and the board of trustees knew all about the gestapo tactics they employed and the people that Hesse and his goons brutalized in the past. Loeffler is doing nothing more than trying to influence the jury in the beating case in advance of the trial. It is painfully transparent and it won't work. Just wait until it comes out how bad Hesse and his cronies were ripping off the Village by screwing women while on duty, protecting drug dealers, shaking down innocent victims and using publicly solicited funds for orgies and partying. I really hope that kid with the lawsuit whacks them for a ton. He deserves it and so does the Village. DA Spoda is all over this one and he and his staff are doing a great job.

This is a general reply to may of the posts I have read.
I will try to address most of the posts here.
Year around residents.

YES , not just limited to OB . Most of the population are zenophobic of anyone they dont know.

YES most of the men are fall down drunks , and most of their wives end up having sex with their husbands best friends .

The MAJORITY of both men AND women living there , and frequenting CJs ARE in fact Cocaine addicts.
They ALL get their blow from that one guy .

Da cops :
Nothing will change there. The mayor should have stepped down in embarrasment. He is in fact the commissioner of Police .

The buisiness owners are the ones who controll the voting.
There are many stories about illegal aliens that work in the restaurants being rounded up to vote against this or that.
PLEASE , Corruption has been part of the CULTURE of Ocean Beach.

There are only 2 things that can right Ocean beach : Sweeping sentences or a hurricane / tidal wave.

Watch the movie COPLAND and you will see what has been going on in ob since its founding

The majority of Fire islanders are institutionalsed racists. Did you know that MLK came to seaview , and all the announcements that were posted were torn down by the local bayfolk ?

The racisim that prevails here is a hard one , one burned into the brains of at least 5 generations back. You can see the fear and hate in their eyes when they see a black person.
They teach their children these things .. that is the sad part.

People that own homes here have no representation , the village votes along what is good for the bar owners.

The ferry company ships back the drunks on the last fery , at DOUBLE the rate.
EVERYONE here profits , and they DO NOT WANT ANYONE ELSE COMMING HERE TO DO THE SAME.
It is one big scoundrel filled racket

Changes are not going to be made, they were made. Last year since Chief Paradiso was gone and those 5 other cops were gone, the department has been recognized as being friendlier, more professional, and more helpful. They helped educate the public and at the same time enforced the laws. I think the department has gone through great changes. Now those who were let go are trying to take them down. Its insane what i've been reading. Those men are just upset they were asked to leave.
Your denial frightens me .. What will you beleive in when all these scoundrels , these corrupt cops all get their comeupance ? How will you rationalise it ? Will you tell everyone that they were great cops , just the DA was out to get them ...?????

You are sad, sick, little people who want to glorify facist punk cops treating US citizens as though they are Bagdad terrorists.

Laws have a purpose and are intended to be enforced.
Were this a community on the mainland, its hard to imagine that anyone would accept people who frequent the bars and restaurants leaving paper wrappers, bottles, cans, styrofoam cups and plastic bags on the streets, private properties and on beaches; dunes being trampled and broken glass left on the cross-walks and sand; people changing into their clothing and picnicking on the public sidewalks; people urinating and defecating in public (because the bars and restaurants have inadequate facilities and the public bathrooms are closed); public intoxication; groups of people residing in unsafe conditions, the public health hazards of mounds of unbundled trash and waking up neighbors in the middle of the night; trespassing and theft.
This warrants more than a warning.
Itís my expectation that "the beleaguered Ocean Beach police department" will enforce the laws of the Incorporated Village of Ocean Beach.
