Ralph, New York City looses more cops to Nassau and Suffolk counties than any other Dept. It is about 25 to 30% of officers are previously from that job. The numbers are available. It is funny, all these people against the police. These are the same people that get arrested or get tickets and are always in trouble. I have been on this earth for over 50 years. Have had my share of dealings with the police. But guess what. I did as my parents always taught me. Treat them politely and with respect. I never had a problem. If I got a ticket for speeding, I deserved it. I was speeding. So give it a break no ones perfect. If I had to put up with peoples bull crap all day long I think I'd be a bit on edge also. Lets also remember, they also give their lives for us too. We should give our prayers to the family of the officer just killed in Commack. He had a wife and kids.

thats not a valid excuse for a police officer to beat the guy up, write em up for as many tickets as possible for being an idiot, dont hospitalize him

You think this former software executive would throw a glass off a deck and then kick the door of a police station if he wasn't drunk. Take the citation and leave why do you need to kick the door???
When will people realize being drunk isn't an excuse.
No one forced you to go out, drink and drink and get drunk. You brought this upon yourself.

What does the fact that this was a colored guy have to do with anything?

Ocean Beach cops screwed up on this one, simply put you don't beat anyone in handcuffs. Who knows, maybe the coips were bullied in high school? getting back at the public? To beat a drunk is pathetic, next time just throw him in the cell and call it a night. The results have taken a tremendous amount of respect away from the officers who do their job by the book. How sad. Oh, and for the record, one does NOT need ANY educational degree to be a Suffolk cop (other than a H.S. diploma, and yes- GEDs count!)- you need more education to be a NYC cop, believe it or not! yet the pay is triple, that's why any NYC cop that gets the call takes the job!

I'm going to take a wild guess here, and say "you've never been to ocean Beach" before. George did more drugs in the back rooms of the bars, while on duty, than any of the patrons. He was given a run of the village, and took advantage of it. There have been MANY lawsuits that were settled out of court by the village, preferring to pay up without the bad press, than go to court.

To those who know nothing of Fire island, it is a strip of land off of Long Island. the few businesses that are there survive on the business they get for 4 months, and about half of the businesses are bars/restaraunts. I've lived on LI my whole life, and have spent plenty of time on Fire island. Ocean Beach is the only place where the police harass you (or used to). The police in all the other villages leave you alone, unless you are breaking the law, and when you do, they give you a ticket, case closed! No grief, no attitude, just a ticket, just doing their jobs. But if you went to Ocean Beach to have a good time, you ran the risk of running into the renegades that patrol the town. I never personally had a problem with them, but I was usually in groups of 4 - 10 guys, and not guys you'd go out of your way to hassle. But I have seen these cops in action. Trust me when I tell you, these guys deserve what's coming to them. They were literally a disgrace to all the other SCPD.

Those j'off cops on Ocean Beach are (or used to be) out of control. I watched them beatdown a friend of mine because he didn't move fast enough for them. He sued them for a nice penny. And before you go thinking we were causing trouble, we most certainly were not. In fact, I'm a police officer.

Just an observation: S.C.P.D. officer was KILLED by a drunk driver early Sunday morning by a person who was arrested in Nassau last month for drunk driving and posession of an illegal firearm. Yet, Newsday does not have a comment section for its readers in any of its articles. Why?
