Maybe the parents and guardians will finally GET IT if they're held responsible financially for what their wards do when unattended. And, YES, the kids ought to be made to work in cleaning and maintaining the cemetaries as a work program, mandatory by court order -- or else serve time in a juvenile detention center.

They need to learn that this is wrong behavior!

Good. Pay restitution, order the children to have to perform community service at the cemetery.

Maybe parents will learn to control their children.

Sending them to juvi will only give them additional ideas. Have them AND their parents work, really work, at the cemetery, doing any repairs, digging graves, attending funerals, mowing grass, anything they can, for a full year. Then the parents should pay up for the balance of the damage.

clearly you've never been inside or know kids that have been in juvi. sending them for a couple days won't do any good. they need to pay up and do community service work. they don't learn anything by sitting around doing nothing. they need to be taught that was wrong and there are consequences to their actions, not just a slap on the hand.

In addition to putting the kids to work at the cemetery they should also do labor work at their schools. The taxpayers pay for their "free" education. If the schools can not inculcate good behavior in them they might as well teach them labor skills like scrubbing the restrooms.

Make the parents and the kids clean up every cemetery in the country and make repairs where needed. Make sure it hits the news all over the country so other jurisdictions will be encouraged to follow suit and start making people take responsibility for their actions AND to learn to respect others, whether they are dead or alive.

Insurance companies should NOT have to cover this ~ that only makes those of us who are innocent have to pay for someone elses crimes !!! Make the family pay so they learn to watch their "little angel Johnny or Bonnie who would never do anything like this" *GAG*

I do think this is a good idea. Even though they could never "work off" $300K, I like the idea that they should have to work 8 hours every Saturday, Sunday, and holiday for free at the cemeteries for, say, the next 10 years. Mowing, digging graves (when capable), routine maintenance, repairs, etc.

Give us a break ~ this is why kids do things like this, because they don't have to face the responsbility of their actions !! These kids knew right from wrong so your point is moot and worthless. Anyone knows that "juvi" doesn't help. I worked at CPD for many years and saw some of the records "kids" had and they were not pretty crimes and what is sad, is so many innocent people suffered because of them. You need to reevaluate your "weak" thinking because that is what weakens society, is passing on this kind of sorry rhetoric and attitude.

Way back in the old days when I was growing up, we were made to go to the person and apologize, then WE had to find a way to earn the money and make restitution. Most kids never repeated their dirty deeds because they didn't want to go through that again and they learned the value of a dollar.

Sadly, people like you are the problem.

So lets make the juveniles work in the cemetery to help fix things. Heck, lets get their parents to help too. Tired of kids and families doing damage and getting away with it. Make them work it off, paying money is great but working to make amends will help them remember what they did. Or, we can just cane them.

"The insurance company for another has paid the cemeteries $30,000."

Parents can get insurance just in case their kid(s) purposely cause damage to another persons' property?

I would like to know what argument the parents (who are fighting the lawsuit) are making. Yes, the kids should be required to work at the cemetaries.
