Sounds like it had. The owner told the man to stay away from the bull he could get real mean (and to close the gate and stay out of the beans).

OK - I couldn't resist. It is a sad story. I have horses and something of this nature happening is always a concern. Animals are unpredictable but usually those used to being around them take is as a known risk. This man sounds like my grandfather. He had probably been around cattle all his life and one mis-step or spook was the last one. My farrier was loading a horse into a trailer, slipped in the mud, and came a 1/4 of an inch from losing his life when the horse stepped on his face. Farming (and like work) is one of the most dangerous professions around.

I've had several heifers run me up trees. I don't even get close to a heifer unless I have a tree to climb or a fence to leap over. The bulls don't give me much trouble.

heifer (hef'er), n. a young cow that has not produced a calf.
Grown cows and bulls can be both protective of their young and their herd respectively.
No telling what went in the tank on that dairy farm in wondering's world.
