Mayor Petersen wants to borrow $30 million dollars using a 'proposed' tax increase as collateral. Dows he think the public is too stupid to ask what happens if his 'proposal' doesn't pass? I realize that it is probably a done deal with his party in control of the Council, but still. Is borrowing against something no yet enacted the way to run a city?

Why should the working man pay the hole bill Because he worked hard and has a house we will make him pay Get rid of the tax i would rather pay more sales tax at least ever one would pay it not only the home owner

It seems our so called "leaders" want to wait until the nest session to do something drastic instead of dealing with it now.

By then many people will lose their homes they worked hard for.

I am so glad the legislature spent so much time on the gay marriage amendment during the last session. That was much more crucial than, oh, I dunno, fixing the tax system?

This is sure getting these elected clowns scurring about. Trying to place blame on the other party or something besides themselves.

Im for totally dropping the real estate tax and taxes in general should be lowered. Not raised.
Im for a smaller government with more accountabilty. Now every little nitwit government agency wants more money they just raise the taxes.

Maybe we should try the liberetarian party. They advocate less government.

Daniels has created a crisis. What next? We have discontinued the inventory tax, farm ground is not taxed at market value, business did not share in the trending and was not taxed as was the home owners.
Well, maybe we can sale off our state parks, to Mexico.
Maybe the president can loan us some money for our local needs. Why maybe we can blame the news media for creating this crisis.
But if all is well in Indiana we will shift the focus to a political animal and blame the party who's mascot is an ostritch. Putting one's head in the sand and taking a vacation is all about Mitch can do.

we have a mismanaged library being constructed in indy ,a tremendously expensive stadium being built with taxpayers money...promises of new subsidised hotels to accomodate the rich in downtown indy...and common people who can no longer afford to live in their homes....just refuse to pay the tax...there are not enough policemen to enforce this law.

Daniels and all the politicians will try to keep the present property tax because it gives them power to reward friends and punish enemies.

They will try to give it a little cosmetic change to quiet complaints.

Don't let them. Property taxes must be abolished and replaced with a sales tax. No more business as usual from that gang.

We are expecting the same idiots who voted for the last "reform" not 120 days ago to fix it now?

The bulk of the money goes to schools. They are probably the biggest sponges in IN. Why do we permit them to build Taj Mahals? Olympic size pool, oversized sports stadiums (and the list goes on) do not make or break the students learning ability. But they certainly break the tax bank.

Public Safety is paramount. But public safety is one of the areas first to be cut. Political priorities are in the right place aren't they. But have you ever noticed the fire station shut down is not where the bulk of the politicians live?

We had to give away our toll road to a foreign investment company to repair our road. We used a band aid on a amputation. Now mitch wants to give our lottery away also. Is Wakenhut or Pinkerton going to be our state police soon?

Smoking is the root of all evil and we tax smokers to death amid smoke and mirrors (no I don't). They are the politically correct target. But I feel they are hardly the big financial drain being professed. However there are illegal aliens all over this country that are getting free medical care, free schooling, food stamps. The only free benefit they should get is a trip back home. The key word in their classification is ILLEGAL.

So the same idiots who voted last spring are going to fix the property tax problem. They need to fix all of the holes in the dam before they fill the lake.

Heres' the South Bend newspaper quote from Bauer:

In response, House Speaker B. Patrick Bauer, D-South Bend, said he sees no need to consider a special session until there is "a defined bipartisan proposal that offers long- and short-term solutions."

Be nice if he had an idea.

I just checked out the Star's data base (thank you Star). How DID Orentlicter dodge the assessment bullet? His value did go DOWN. He's my state rep too and I live in his neighborhood. Mine nearly doubled.

Party politics is the big problem here ... not which party you belong to. It often takes whoever we elect to represent our interests down the wrong road.

I can also guarantee you there will never be a day where I vote for a candidate who's party platform seeks to legalizes drug use as the Libertarian Party does.

You little people need to quit your complaining. Pay your taxes and shut up. Your problems are not very interesting. I have a dinner scheduled with my rich buddies that I am going to. We will laugh at you people. Good times.

You can ALL thank the state legislature for sending anything to the Gov - you know, like Orentlicter, Bauer, etc...

I just hope all of you who are complaining are REGISTERED TO VOTE! All the complaining in the world won't matter unless your voice is heard loud and clear on ELECTION DAY.

Register NOW, don't wait.
