How horrible! Do the police have anything closer now on who might have done this?

I guess there's just not a lot of folks around Carthage,MO that stay on the internet much.I find it hard to believe there is no more discussion than this in such a small place.

I have also found it strange. Seems the story just drop out of view. That is very weird in a small town where everyone talks about everything!

Maybe they do not want a lot of talk or details because they're trying to find out who did this.
I would not want to be partly responsible for spreading rumors that kept the murderers from being caught,so,I don't think I'll be back on.I'll just keep up on the local news.

I have lived in large and small cities/towns and what you have/have not been seeing in the news is not at all uncommon. Stories come and go in the media and at many times can be a huge help to the local authorities in helping them to solve a situation. Sometimes, a tight lip keeps too much information from getting out, so... this is not a bad thing. Cases take time to solve in some instances, after-all,...this isn't a crime show, like CSI Miami.
Some crimes take time to be solved,....and then again, sometimes,.....
My hope and prayer is that this one, like many others, gets solved, and soon.
My encouragement to you all, is to support the local police and those whom they are likely working with in their efforts. If you see or hear anything that may be of use to the police is solving ANY crime that they are looking into, even the most minor of things,(like maybe you heard a car spinning it's tires at a certain time, or a dog barking anxiously, anything that may be or may have been unusual for that time of day or area, then contact the authorities (anonymously if you wish) and let them know. The information you give could be the match that lights the candle they need to use to see with.

My prayers are with the police and the families and friends of the victims.

This sounds to me like good advice.Maybe someone will step forward.Often times in tight knit rural communities, people are frightened to report things for fear of retaliation of some kind.
I hope in this case, someone will be able to provide the needed information.
I wish they would offer a large reward for info that led to the arrest of whoever would do such a henious thing to two elderly people.

A reward, of some type, may/may not be helpful. More over, just doing the right thing can be just as rewarding as recieving some monetary compensation. Part of the problem, from what I've seen in the early reports is that it was a small neighborhood and apparently not very heavily populated. Still if ANYONE has ANY real information that can help the police, no matter how minor it may seem to you, then call the local police and report what you may know, anonymously (without having to see your name broadcast or discussed through the media, or elsewise) and hopefully, the information you give, will help catch whomever committed this crime.

That's true about doing the right thing.Unfortunately, there are some that: monetary compensation will be the only incentive for them to come forward on crimes. I'm for whatever is necessary to help the police solve this.I expect to see this on American Justice someday by the tone and looks of it.Hope it's solved.

Now that this topic is all but forgotten,I am wondering if and how they will EVER find the killer or killers of these two elderly folks.I am afraid that they might not, being such a small place and with limited resources. Is there any new news on this or anything in the local paper?

I find it almost unreal that in an area this size, there is NOTHING apparently being said about this horrendous murder.Seems folks are more interested in keeping something called "Northern Cherokee Nation of MO&AR" alive than in wondering about the murder of two of their elderly citizens,or insisting that the killers be found.I'm not discounting the issue of that thread "northern ect" but heck fire,2 elderly people were brutally murdered!

I'm guessing that "reader" you are related to the "two elderly people" as you keep refering to them OR are involved in some way. Hopefully they do catch whomever has done this. Also I sure hope that if someone knows something that they would man up and do the right thing without having to be "paid off" to do it. Then again you keep stressing over the non reward part and someone wanting money to talk. Do you know something and are waiting until someone offers you money to spill your guts?? You make yourself look pretty suspicious. Read everything you have wrote so far and imagine it being written by someone else. You would think that they sound suspicious to if you were honest. But there is no reward for your honesty is there?

Why,hell no,I don't know them from adam.I live in Arkansas.I know some folks from MO,and heard about this on Topix.
I would HOPE someone would come forward soon, whether there is a reward,or not.I could care less how it's done. But face it: that's the way the society we live in works: what's in it for (---whoever the person that's doing the good deed is)
You don't know me from adam, either, but,I guarantee you that if I was privy to any information at all about such a henious crime,I'd already been to the police about it.
Stop reading ulterior motives into my posts.I'm the only one that's posted about this because evidently,I'm the only one that gives a damn, and,I don't even live up there.

Besides, there was/is a reward,as I understand it.If I were motivated by money and knew anything,I would have already gone to the police and maybe collected.
If I had a clue as to who did it,I promise you that I'd go to the police and NOT ask for a thing in return. Not everyone in the world sees the bottom line as being about money, but, most do.
God is the one that "rewards" honesty and, just being honest has its' own rewards.I was brought up to believe and practice that.
I just wish they could catch whoever committed such a terrible crime against two elderly citizens of the community in Carthage.I'm a home health nurse and have been for 17 years, and,I have a particular soft spot for elderly.
Being able to care for them has been my "reward" because I damn sure didn't get paid enough for the long hours and driving I had to do.

D*** I can't believe that in a place no bigger than this is,no one has been caught or come forward with anything on these two elderly folks' murder. Is it just going to be forgotten?

They have two suspects in custody: Darren Winans & a Matthew Laurin, and they were trying to decide where the murder trial will be held (the last time I read about it). I believe they were caught by an anonymous tip given to private investigators hired by the Sheldon family, and the local cops didn't have much to do with it! I don't have any info about the reward and I am not updated on the current facts, so I will not bash the cops here either. I live out of state and I was following this story simply because I knew the Sheldon family when I was growing up there, and this is a very touchy subject for me. I also believe in the right of presumption of innocence, so I will not make any comments regarding these guys until after the trial determines what really happened. I can make the comment and echo what their son Bob said, that IF they are guilty (key word being IF), then they are much safer in jail right now. Thats not a threat, thats just reality.

I just read the updates. Both punks admit to being there during the murders and are blaming each other, and the law has a ton of evidence against them. It was all about DOPE DOPE DOPE - everybody was on dope! It appears that they are guilty because of the confessions. Perhaps knives may find them in prison, who knows. Karma is a bitch.

Anything new on this case? Last thing I read was that they both pleaded "not guilty". Hmmmm....

The sad thing is that even if they get the death penalty, they could out-live a lot of the Sheldon's friends while they are on death row for 30 years. We have a big problem with timely executions in this country and Missouri is no exception.

"With murders unsolved, concern warranted." That's what's called in the news business a "No sh*t?" headline. E.g., "Coach says best team will win." Well, no sh*t?
