Hello, I just want to say I was at the meeting and although many complaints were voiced none were really heard. They went ahead and passed it. Now if we can not afford to pay this we could loose our home as the company can put a lean against it for failure to pay. this is crap what happened to our right to choose? Also when did businesses start putting a notice in a trash can. Is that all the notice we are worth is trash. And finally it was mentioned at the meeting that the City gets a eight percent cut of the action it when undesputed. No other company can come in for ten years is this becoming comunistic or what??????????Sounds like another Sclaries deal to me.

Just wanted to add the note that those people who were not getting trash services previously were allowing trash to pile up everywhere which is a concern to other home owners for many reasons. If you cannot pay for trash pick up...which is very cheap compared to most other municipalities...then how do you afford to pay your mortgage? Fernley was one of the only places I have ever heard of that you actually COULD choose to have your waste picked up.

I think for the most part fernley is a nice place to live. But since when does the city have the right to tell people that it is madatory to pay for trash or have a lien put on your property? I guess the (town clown) Mayor cutler and his goon squad took it upon themselves to take action on something that was going just fine untill they decided to screw things up once again. I dont give a damn what anyone says about its good for everyone so that trash does not pile up in yards. I drive through a large part of fernley on a daily basis and i dont see trash pileing up in peoples yards all over town. I think we have small problem ares like cedar street that should be delt with by bulldozers,But i personally dont think mandatory trash service should be decided by a few people it should have been brought to the people of fernley and decided by the fernley residents in my opion the city and it clowns should have a class action suit brought against it. And the part of people with two acres or more not having to have trash service is a crock also. Most large lots in fernley are the eye sores with trash and junk vehicles on the property, Tell them its mandatory to clean up. I guess the kick backs from TRASH PROS are more important to mayor CUTLER and his goon squad than the voices of many concerned fernley tax paying residents. I say BOO to you MAYOR CUTLER and your goons. BY THE WAY TRASH PROS DID NOT PICK UP MY TRASH ON MONDAY UNTILL AFTER 5PM when waste management had my trash and the neighborhood usually done by 3PM.

You have got to be kidding me? Get off your high horse and walk around. Desert lakes community in east Fernley where tons of renters are have backyards full of trash bags. My neighbor had the "aroma" going through his swamp cooler into his house. He tried to get them to pick it up but they are renters, why should they care. My neighbor also tried to get ahold of the owner and had to spend his own time tracking down the out of state owner who obviously wasn't able to do anything about it. This is just one example. I own a local business here in Fernley so I interact with many Fernley residents. I have seen at least a dozen of the same problem. So I think its great to have mandatory trash pickup. I sure wouldn't want my kids playing in our back yard with the aroma of poopy diapers and weeks old moldy food. Where or when do they eventually dump this stuff. Yeah lets load it up in the family car and take it to the dump and pay 6.85 a load. I pay almost $60 every 3 months for trash service with the can, I think it might be cheaper if you have your own can but I'm not sure. So thats 20 a month. I have a wife and two kids and one dog. I fill up the big green can every week which is a lot of trash. If I were to let it accumulate in my back yard for one month and loaded the trash up in my pickup and take it out to the dump I will almost guarantee it will cost more than 20 bucks. So it makes sense to require everyone to have trash service. It might stink too some but think of how it stinks to your neighbors. I think Fernley City Council did a good thing. You on the other hand sound like you need to get a hobby or a life. So what if Trash Pros didn't pick up your trash as early as WM did. Lets call the WAAAMBULANCE! BOOHOO!!! Are you kidding me with this? Class action lawsuit? So you drive through a large part of Fernley? Are you seeing what's in the backyards? I doubt it. You're probably too much of a coward to get out of your car and look. You'd rather sit at home and type uneducated (evident in spelling) rants. The funny thing is I might actually know who you are. Maybe the City Council should've put this on the ballot so what! I guarantee you it would've passed. GET A LIFE!!

AMEN AMEN AMEN!! I was surprised also to find it optional for trash pickup when I bought my house. I guess people need to have a few neighbors with the piles of trash in their backyards to fully grasp and understand how great this decision was. I commend the Fernley City Council and Mayor Cutler (who I didn't vote for by the way) for a job well done. Now instead of having to make numerous phone calls to track down the owners of these rentals where the trash is piling up I will hopefully have to make just one. Believe me when I say that I will report you if I see piles of trash in your back yards. Like I said I own a local business in Fernley and I see lots of backyards (Does that tell you what I do??) with piles of trash and usually people dont want to start a war with their neighbor so I will do it for them and will gladly say so. Kudos to the Fernley City Council.

Oh and one last thing, I also think Fernley for the most part is a nice place to live. Of course it would be a lot nicer if people like you moved away, far far away.

I would just like to say I am a renter and I do care about the person's house I am renting as well as the neighbors and this community. I don't think its fair to classify all renters as people who don't care. I do pay for garbage and it runs about $76.00 every three months. So please don't just assume that all renters don't care just because we can not afford to buy a home at this time.

So what exactly does Obama have to do with Fernley's new trash proposal? I didn't vote for him nor do I feel the need to "flame" other posters. I am addressing Mad Fernley Resident. If that is you then I am addressing you, not anyone else on this thread, just you.

I'm sorry but you misunderstand what I am saying. I never assumed all renters don't care. You have to admit though that you as a renter who does actually handle their trash are in the minority. I drive Fernley east and west on a daily basis and I can almost with a 100% accuracy tell you just by looking at their front yards who rents. Now if they aren't taking care of their front yards imagine the backyards. I know of one house over by 7-11 that is completely trashed and is owner occupied but thats an anomaly. Whether you can afford a house or not I could care less and is way off topic. The point is there is in fact hundreds of trashed houses in Fernley with piles of trash in their backyards and the MAJORITY of them are renters. Does that mean ALL renters have piles of trash in their backyard? I think not, that was never said by me. Lets be honest here, society has taken a huge downturn. People dont respect other peoples property anymore and its getting worse. Remember all of the graffiti that was popping up around town? Remember the fence by the Autumn Winds development? Now we have renters (NOT ALL) trashing their houses that dont belong to them. I see it up and down Shadow Lane, most streets with a letter or a number designation. I could give you a few addresses of houses in the Desert Lakes subdivision that would make your stomach turn with all of the piles of garbage, dirty diapers etc... This proposal is aimed at those types of people. So rather than rag on our elected officials for trying to clean up Fernley (front and back) lets support them and their cause. Thats the point I was trying to make to Mad Fernley Resident from the very beginning.

On Saturday 24 Jan 09 I took my recycleables to the Fernley Waste Management (WM) Refuse Transfer Station only to find out that they are no longer participating in recycling. UPon inquiry the gentleman running the facility told me that it was not cost effective for WM to recycle.....so much for thinking Green. Today I called Trash Pros(TP) and was told I could bring aluminum, Paper and Medal to the Wadsworth drop off; but no plastics or glass.
It seems to me that the loosers in this deal are the Citizens of Fernley.
I my opinion WM needs to change their motto from "Think Green to "Think Greenbacks" and TP needs to step up to the plate and accept all recycleables to include plastics and glass.
In the mean time.....maybe I will store it all in my backyard!

Yeah because we all know that letting it pile up in your backyard will be great for your environmental causes and create positive interactions with your neighbors while glass and plastic pile up in your yard. Lets change your name to "Staying Stupid in Fernley".

Let me just say that I am for recycling, and for taking care of your own trash, and for enforcing health codes already on the books that make it illegal to have trash buildup. Creating more laws doesn't make taking away property rights ok, when the law is already there to enforce and maintain health violations. I moved here because of the freedoms I was afforded to be a responsible citizen without being babysitted. If you want madatory trash, move into a community that already requires it. How dare you tell those of us to move that moved here because Fernley was a community that used to believe in property rights. Move to a darn community where you believe everyone needs to be babysat by your government and leave us who believe in personal responsibility and property rights alone. Government is suppose to govern, not dictate!!!!!!

I absolutely don't have a problem with trash service, paying for it, whatever.

What I do have a problem with is that Maria, the receptionist at TrashPros was an absolute bitch, when I simply called to let her know that due to the wind, I put a bungy cord on the lid of my trash can so that any loose trash wouldn't blow into my neighbor's yard.(As I did with Waste Mangement for five years) Unfortunately, my bungy cord was dumped with the trash. The collector simply put it into the garbage can before it dumped it. Maria's response was "oh well, next time you won't use a bungy and you need to make sure all your trash is bagged, even that which is placed in the can." I am hoping that all my neigbors on Divot Drive got that message too since I am picking up everybody's trash in my yard and surround on the windy days, just like today.

My other concern with TrashPros is that the collectors are so lazy. They came and cleaned up the front yard today and the collector couldn't even lift the bag of grass clippings...strange because my 13 year old daughter could when I asked her to place it in the garbage can for next week. He told my husband, "It's too heavy!" What a joke.

I think what gets me the most angry is that I have to pay TrashPros $4.00 more per quarter than Waste Management (a savings of what?????) and I still make regular weekly trips to the dump where I also pay because TrashPros "can't pick this up, it is too heavy, and that box is too big" and on and on and on. Nice work Todd, I hope you are getting a cut of the profit!!!!! I would like to have the choice of selecting who I want to pay for my garbage pickup. Strange how I have used Waste Management for over 12 years and never once had to complain!!!!!

I take offense to this post. I have never had trash service (until it was forced upon me) and have NEVER had trash piled up on my property. You shouldn't lump everybody together in one group. There are some people in this community that are responsibe homeowners that do not want mandatory trash service!

My wife and I will be retiring in one year and will be visiting Fernley this June to look at Houses. But I will not live in a city where you have renters and others who don't give a dam about there neiborhoods. No one should allow trash to pile up in there back yard. The city council shuld pass a ordinance like the city I live in now where the owner of the house that is being rented will get a leign againest that house if the city comes out and cleans up the trash in the yard. Fernley city council should get off there ass and get tuff with the ass holes who make the city look bad.
