I don't understand the thought process in Arnold's wanting to explore "expansion" at all. There is a class action lawsuit alleging serious stormwater damage overlooked and ignored by the city (within the city limits) that's never been properly dealt with. We will be posting pictures of this damage in the coming days, it's an absolute nightmare for these poor people who've had to build their own retaining walls that aren't even enough to hold back the water. One individual had to fill in his basement with gravel! Another couple bought a house there, unknowingly, and had to move because the foundation was never set with proper piers, and the water came up 1 1/2 ft., over their driveway! The house is now inhabitable and these people are paying a mortgage on a house, two years now, they can't even live in, they're living elsewhere. It's shameful! The city hasn't taken care of this issue to the residents' satisfaction, and should, especially if they're charging a "stormwater tax" to pay for it. Go to Key West Drive and you'll see what I'm talking about. I was there yesterday and it's a virtual nightmare. A swimming pool that's surrounded by bricks because the stormwater current is so strong that it actually lifts the pool up when it's not filled with water. We're talking a 20 ft. diameter pool here! Annexing for more space? THF and Mr. Amato talking about developing the area between just north of the post office to UMB Bank? I suggest this council revisit the stormwater problem and take care of it first or I see a few people losing their jobs at election time. The existing residents and taxpayers are more important, and should be, than annexation and possible bulldozing for more tax revenue.

There is no class action lawsuit against the city alleging overlooked stormwater damage. There was a suit by Bob Boyer, who was elected to represent the city on the county council, ex-councilmen Jerel Poor and Matt Hay, and Steve Robinson. What a crew. They were trying to line their own pockets at your expense and mine as fee payers. Whether Bob represents the city by suing it is pretty laughable though that is a topic for separate discussion.
How is it the city's fault that faulty piers were built into a house? How do you know they were faulty? Let us all in on that one please. Now you say the house is "inhabitable". Is that a word? Just because the city has not satisfied this resident is that in some way the city's fault? How is it shameful? Should the city use your tax dollars or mine to jump in and fix something or take responsibility for that which the city and us are not liable? Why is it not more shameful that this is probably the fault of the builder?

Hmmmm...who do you think filled in the lagoon sludge and all, covered it with a thin layer of topsoil, then divided it into lots and sold them? Who inspected and passed the construction? Who bought out most of the homes in that area?
The illegal storm water or gravity tax is still in court, it never passed the smell test or the Keller test for that matter. It will be adjudicated sooner or later and the voters will have to vote on whether to allow the tax or not. Crystal City was up front with their voters instead of trying to take advantage of them and just imposing the tax on them illegally.
What is shameful is the willingness of city staff and attorney to force people into litigation instead of doing the right thing from the start. The only one wasting anyone's money here would be the city attorney. I think that is why he lost his slot to begin with, something to do with he wins either way because his bill gets paid win or lose.
