Chance, I apologize. I didn't see your post before I posted mine. I also didn't see the four Oxford Houses in Hungtington on their website. I'd delete my post if I could but as you probably know, it's not possible.

There are currently four Oxford Houses in West Virginia: Two in Charleston; one in Dunbar and one in Parkersburg. Where did you get your information that there were no other Oxford Houses in West Virginia?

To answer your question, "so why Fayetteville?"... I believe it was in response to an invitation from people in the Oak Hill / Fayetteville communities.
thedy need to move on.

Great people to have living in your community
Its a place of employment. Sexual Harassment happens all the time(unfortunetly) not just by people trying to recover from drugs and last time I checked people were still innocent until proven quilty in a court of law.

Fact is the people who don't want something like this in fayetteville is a bunch of upper middle class people who think that there're better than everyone else. Drugs and alcohol abuse is an illness. Just like when you get the flu. Until we learn to try and fight it off it will only spread and not allowing these people a second chance in life and rejecting them only allows the illness to spread. So get over your, "I make **,***.** a year and don't want those dirtbags near me because there're trouble" and realize that these are people who are trying there hardest to recover. Instead of being a arrogant jerk maybe you greet them and offer them any help needed.

Addiction is the only "illness/handicap" I can think of that someone CHOOSES to have. These ppl get to move in here and get handouts because the federal government considers them disabled, just as if they were blind or mentally retarded. I think that someone who decides to suck on a crack pipe should be the last one getting any government help - or living next door to my kids! Plus a large number of ppl coming into this house dont last a month. It's gonna be a constant revolving door of criminals and addicts flooding into the community. And this house was NOT requested by the residents of oak hill/fayetteville! A couple in oak hill started it with the help of their church - st Andrews, also in oak hill. The citizens of Fayetteville knew nothing about it til it was already in place.

I've certainly had the flu and other illnesses that I didn't ask for. However, if I CHOOSE to use drugs or alcohol I consider that a CHOICE not an illness. I am not an arrogant jerk...just a hard working parent trying to earn a living. I do NOT want a halfway house in my neighborhood. Do YOU???? Please tell us where YOU live and perhaps we can suggest YOUR neighborhood. Then let's all watch YOU greet them with open arms. It it really easy to be so happy about it when it doesn't directly affect you...perhaps YOU are the arrogant jerk!

I live right in fayetteville in the area. Maybe not next door but I've worked at mt.olive and a half-way house in beckley. I enjoy helping others. I've also been on drugs and im thankful for people who have stepped up to help me. I've met people like you who could careless about others. Upper middle class white arrogant jerks who think they do no wrong and look down on others who have made poor choices but are trying to do good now. NEWSFLASH: your money doesn't make you sh*T.

I would gladly welcome them. Go outside and greet them and have a conversation with them and see what there're about. Im sure you won't though right? You'll look down on them and say to yourself, "those are bad horrible people and don't want them breatheing the same air as me". You can say I wouldnt want them near me all you want but I've worked at a half-way house and can honestly say I would rather live next to people who want to better themselves than people who already think there're better than everyone else.

people make mistakes in life. Maybe they havent been as perfect as you THINK that you are but at least there're trying to do good now. God forbid one day your kid gets addicted to drugs and need help. I truely wonder if you would be there or if you would stick to your "im better than you mentality"?

Chance, you seem a very vocal advocate for the individuals who will occupy this house. No one has answered my question as to where these people are going to work. Do you know?

Im assume they will attempt to find a job at fayetteville square where wal-mart and sheetz and all those places are. Possible the outlets up in oakhill such as k-mart and those places. Anywhere else a person will attempt to find a job.

I hope for their sakes that people give them a chance. It would be wonderful if the individuals have already set-up agreements with some of the businesses.

That makes sense. Because they are SO many jobs around here - these felons & drug addicts will be able to find one easily, right?

probably not find one easily but there's people who use to be felons and drug addicts already working at places im sure where we shop and eat. I've worked with some before in retail and grocery.

I bet you people have never done anything wrong in your whole lives. WTH is wrong with you. Would you rather these people keep doing drugs, live off of welfare, and never try to get a job and do better. Or maybe you would rather they sale drugs, make a lot of money illegally, and buy the house next door to you. I have seen people who sale drugs do better than people who work their @sses off. At least these people are trying. Why won't you give them a chance?
You cannot tell me that you actually think they will be able to go around doing anything that they want. If this is set up right, it should be a program where they are watched to make sure they are doing the right thing and staying clean. Otherwise, what is the point.
I can understand some nervousness about this, but what you should be doing is making sure that everything is set up right so that you don't have to worry about what will happen. You should be grateful that the people moving in are recovering instead of dealing. Imagine having those type of people as your neighbors, and don't say that it can't happen because it can. It is actually very likely these days.

See, this is what I'm talking about... Bleeding heart idiots on here spouting stuff that they know NOTHING at all about. NO these folks will not be supervised in any way, by anyone! There is no employment agreement set up anywhere. This program has at least a 25% failure rate. That means at any given time 2 if the 6 people in there will be relapsed. These aren't pot smokers who work at rafting companies either. They are hardcore drug addicts and convicts. Do some research before you start telling me something I already know.

You've been around these kind of people have you?? I've worked with them and know what they do. There're not rapiest and killers. There're not randomly go outside and try to beat your kids kill you. Your just another upper middle class white person who could careless about anyone else. The only reason you THINK you know about these people is because you have preconcieved notions of how they act and behave based off what you see on tv. If this program was unsuccess there're would not be hundreds of them across america so get over yourself and do something productive to help others who need it instead of bringing them down and being the reason for them to stay on drugs.
