HRS focuses attention only on certain "chosen" ones. If you are not super smart...if you are just average....you are " forgotten." The teachers in upper grades have "certain ones" with whom they go the extra mile outside of the classroom. That kind of thing is noticed by other parents & students. What makes those kids different or even more special? The majority of the " other kids" parents will never say a word because the feel so inferior. Really sad....

It is amazing how many negative comments make it onto here. Do they also make it to the administrators' and the central office? It is very easy to sit and gripe on the computer.

Having taught at HRS for many years and NOT in the middle school I can say that as a teacher and parent our school
offers a top notch environment, curriculum, and a multitude of enrichment opportunities for students of all ability and socioeconomic levels. Our faculty members are the first to lend a hand to one another in times of need and in celebration. I love coming to my job each day because of my students and my colleagues. I wish all teachers could say the same and I bet HRS teachers do!

Having a 8th grader at City right now I can tell you it's the exact opposite at Jr. High! The place is crazy. They ask or intimidate the kids every day about going there next year. Not for us, we are gone! Played their games for 2 yrs now.

Not all people get their information from that website; there are many other sources of information. No one was insulting anyone's ability to read. I really hate that it's come to this kind of defensive attitude on both sides of the fence.
The defensive attitude appears to come from decisions and statements the city has made about the lack of education they feel their precious city kids aren't getting at LCHS!
You have a choice at LCHS, honors curriculum or easy street curriculum. It's that simple. If you choose easy street then don't expect a Honors education. DUH! The difference with the new city school and LCHS is that you won't have a choice at city! There will be no Honors classes so it will be easy street no mater what you want. Everybody will get great grades and everybody will be happy till they go to college...

Did I read that right? The city high school won't have any honors classes? What the *%^$! I thought it was supposed to be focused on the higher educational needs of our children. I am going to check into this, if it's true I am so done with city schools!

Been there and done that. I looked the classes over that they are offering and didn't see a single class that was of Honors in nature. There is one aerospace class but that's about it. I got my class info sheet from the open house and brochure they gave out. Pretty sad really. I have a good friend in the "know" and they have told me the front office is like a psycho ward right now! We won't be there to worry about it next year! Yeah!!

Sad, but true. The only thing the county system knows how to do is churn out kids who can't spell to save their life and can barely read. My brother is unfortunately one of those kids, although he did start out at Ralph Askins...so maybe the whole educational system sucks and all the schools should be shut down and the kids bussed to another county so maybe they can actually learn something.
Or maybe your brother is a lazy do nothing that would not know an opprotunity if it hit him right between the eyes. Just saying!

That "vote" that cost taxpayers almost $15,000 and only approx. 800 people voted on was a huge crock of shit. I know for a fact the people in charge of garnering signatures for that vendictive little petition were collected in pathetic manners....phonecalls, old folks homes......please. This whole thing is an example of one group of people trying to improve Fayetteville and help it grow and another bunch of "good" ole boy assholes with vendettas trying to stop it from happening. Let me give you a few facts you won't read about in the old Elk Valley TImes. Billy Joel Evans is behind all the rude little "Vote No" ads in the paper.....and by the way if you were naive to by into his bullshit lies you voted no to improvements at Ralph Askins and Fayetteville Intermediate School, not no to a high school.... which is happening and will start with 10th grade next year. Also, old Billy Joel is just pissed that his son who he put in an administrative role and paid him $75,000, yeah that is right, more than any person except in the in the Fayetteville City System except for Billy Joel himself. Then this year with a new superintendent in power and tons of complaints from teachers and parents the "son" got demoted to the classroom because he did a shitty job.....now daddy is pissed and out for blood and the good old Richardson lawyer who sued the school system for that horrible incident to his step son last year is friends with daddy and baby Evans and he is out for the new superintendent (her daughter was the teacher involved in last year's mess). Now, how did Stan Golden get involved? Well old Billy Joel has him in his back pocket...oh and by the way his son goes to the city and has his whole educational career.....interested huh? That a county superintendent, who married one of this students, would send his kid to the City? Do me a favor and look at the "Vote No" ads.....see any jabs, any blame? Yep, it is all there..........sad thing is people bought into the garbage and don't see the truth..........nobody wants to talk about the truth....they can't handle the truth!!!!!!

Folks, take note, this here is an intellectual giant! I don't guess he got a letter from the chairman of the city school board begging them to vote Yes for the referendum. I did and it was garbage. Just wants to hide behind the good ole boy bull crap and old folks signatures. Next thing you know he'll say the people didn't know what they were signing! We'll they voted and we all know the result. 75% of Fayetteville citizens sneaked out of Donaldson, rolled their wheelchairs into the voting booth and voted No! Now live with it!

I have been personally involved with the city school board for several years now and good, bad, or indifferent, they, in my opinion, have the kids future at heart. I don't know if the high school is a good idea or not, but I definately believe the school board has the right intentions. I also believe that Billy Joe is the top dog behind the smear campaign because of Lance losing his sugar-daddy. Now I like Lance but he is a big boy and has to earn his own way now. Billy Joe should have stayed if he wanted Lance to be football coach. Oh, I forgot, Billy Joe couldn't keep it in his pants. That's why he's gone.

I'm saying that whether or not the high school is a good/bad idea, I believe the school board is sincere in it's intentions. I don't want any added taxes either, but I do believe that to spend 9/10 years with a child's growth and then turning them over to the county for finishing touches has it's drawbacks. All this really makes me understand the thinking behind RCA.

Wow, someone just told me what happened and apparently it was embarrassing for the school board. They had a work session with the mayor and alderman to discus budget and plans after the referendum was defeated and they didn't have a plan at all! No budget numbers either. A few were throw around but nothing concrete. One member even said they thought most people that voted against the referendum thought they were voting for a road or hotel or something like that. Boy, that's who we need teaching and leading our kids! No plan and school (+ a new HS) starts in a couple months??? This is doomed to fail! Mark my words...$$s down the toilet folks...

Do you have any clue how much money city schools had when Billy Joe took over? Do you know how much was in the account when Evans left? I challenge you to find that out. Any parent that loves their child no matter what position they are in doesn't want to see their child done wrong. Especially if it was retaliation for who his daddy was.
