Unemployment Rate Falls to 7.8%

The politically important unemployment rate fell to 7.8% last month from 8.1% in August. That was the lowest level since January 2009.

U.S. payrolls, obtained in a separate survey of employers, increased by a seasonally adjusted 114,000 jobs last month, the Labor Department said Friday.
...
Previously, changes in the rate have reflected people dropping out of the work force. That wasn't the case in September.

----------

With the unemployment rate now down to 7.8 percent, it is at the same level it was when President Obama took office.

When you subtract all the jobs that were lost in his first 13 months on the job from the jobs that have been added since then, you get 325,000 net jobs created.

----------

If you've peeked into the rightwing propaganda machine today, you'll see that the right is having a fit about these new numbers.

They get absolutely despondent when there's any good economic news for America because they love their party more than they love the country.

OK, this is the same Labor Dept that released reports in September that reported the unemployment rate in 26 states remained the same, the rate rose in 12 and fell SLIGHTLY in 12.

They also reported fewer jobs in September, 162K versus August, 189K.

Just saying!

And no, we don't get despondent over good news, we do however get despondent over possibly "skewed" numbers, released 2 days after someone got spanked in the first debate and a month before the elections!

Say what, it's apparent that there is a lot more patriotic voters siding with president Obama then your flipper. You go on and represent the communist loving tea bag club til your hearts content. It does not look like the president needs your vote or even asking for it, retard.

It is simply not rational to believe that the Department of Labor Statistics manipulates the unemployment statistics for the benefit of a politician.

The economy is getting better. Following the crash of 2008-2009 my business has been flat the last two years, this year has brought gradual improvement with a significant increase the past two months. I'm not at 2007 levels yet but I'm doing well.

Solid Jobs Report Spawns Crackpot ‘Job Truthers’ Movement

Betsey Stevenson, a former chief economist at the Department of Labor under President Obama, said in a phone interview with TPM that the conspiracy theories were misguided in just about every way possible.

For starters, the Bureau of Labor Statistics isn’t currently run by a political appointee. For most of Obama’s term, the commissioner was a holdover appointed by President Bush. The current acting commissioner John Gavin is a career BLS economist, not an Obama appointee.

The underlying data behind the BLS reports is also publicly released and used by analysts across the private sector and academia, meaning a conspiracy would have to survive scrutiny from trained economists of all political stripes.

Nor is there much time to cook the books at the top level if they wanted to.

“I worked for Secretary Hilda Solis and she didn’t know the job numbers until 8 a.m. on the day,” Stevenson said.“Which made my job very difficult, because I had to help her figure out what she was going to say when they were released.” The BLS releases the numbers publicly at 8:30 a.m. ET.

----------

You can't use a set of numbers for 4 years to criticize someone, and then when those same set of numbers turn positive say they are made up.

Are you freakin serious???????? You really are a paranoid conspiracy theorist!!!

Seriously, you can reference "true" unemployment all you want, but the fact of the matter is that the U6 has dropped MORE than the U3.

No matter what measure you use, unemployment is coming down due to Obama's policies. Denying that fact or claiming that the BLS is manipulating the data is pure lunacy.

bobby64, you don't deserve any type of response, so that's where I'll leave it!

Now, let's see, there were fewer jobs created in September than created in August, fewer jobs created in August than were created in July and you honestly don't see something is not adding up to a DROP in the unemployement rate!!??!!!

Dan, my earlier post reference 26 states unemployment rate staying the same, 12 declining and 12 rising also speaks volumes! The lower unemployment rate yet once again DOES NOT ADD UP!!!

That reflects more on your understanding of how the unemployment rate is calculated than on anything the BLS did.

When you fail to comprehend something that's complex and instead leap to a simplistic conclusion, you are bound to draw mistaken conclusions.

Concluding that the BLS is manipulating the unemployment rate to benefit a politician is a mistake you're making because you don't understand their calculation methods.

Here, go learn something about calculating the unemployment rate so you don't have to leap to irrational conclusions:

get ready for your business to go beyond "flat". if you voted for obama and your business continues to go flat, you re getting what you deserve.
