I hope the lady who left her child in a car with the motor running is charged!!!
If that doesn't fall under child indangerment or neglect or SOMETHING else I don't know what would!
Thank God know one was either hurt or even killed because of the STUPID mother!!!

she probably ran into the school quick. a child of that age should be okay to SIT IN A CAR for a while and should know better. Just because the mother/father allowed the child to sit in a car for a few minutes does not mean they are neglectful. Get all of the facts first before jumping the parent's balls.

NORMALLY, I'D REACT TO THE DEFENSE OF THE VICTIM OF THE IGNORANT DRIVER; however, from the posts on this comment section, I'd have to say you're ALL off base... No Where did this Police Log say the engine was running nor were the keys in the car. To me it looks like some kid that was curious about what levers did what in the car put the in to neutral and took off the parking brake. Could have been a bad parent and a bad kid, a good parent and a good kid, or any other visa versa combinations. All in all, folks were at least given they chance to be educated in their ignorance.

The Public Opinion apparently publishes only what's contained in the police blotter. Often sketchy details that do not explain fully what occurred. You'd think that the reporter assigned to this duty would read the blooming reports and when necessary, ask for a few more details to flesh out the news story. You'd think there's a policy at the PO: "Don't ask for more information from the police."

The Public Opinion is understaffed and overworked, just like most businesses out there. Newspapers are facing economic crises across the country and staff shortages are the norm. The reporters don't have the time to track down facts specific to some small incident in Fayetteville in which no one was seriously hurt. Come on, people, just because your curiosity isn't staisfied, don't get ignorant. And, no, I don't work for the paper nor am I married to anyone at the paper. I just have common sense.

We make calls to police multiple times daily to get more information than is contained in the often-sketchy reports, which are faxed to us. Usually the person taking our call is not familiar with the case, or even gives wrong information. The investigating officer is generally off duty when we call, and does not return our calls when back on duty. As supernerd noted, we have a limited amount of time/staff for pursuing multiple stories earch day.

POEditor, Do you know, if you have to be part of the press to get that information, or can anyone of us regular readers call and ask?
Also, where is Hastings, PA?

The way I understand it, a citizen can't get a copy of a police report unless he/she was involved in the incident. Sometimes even then it's difficult.

I believe Hastings is near Johnstown.
