Editorial: Wasteful jury commissioner jobs should be dropped

Full story: Public Opinion

One of the more significant outcomes of last week's elections seems to have sunk below the radar: County taxpayers will spend more than $100,000 over the next four years to fund the salaries of two jury commissioners.

In addition to the jury commissioners job, lets look at consolidating some of the couty row offices. Eliminate redundancy and streamline operations.

If I could just find a job making a small portion of the kind of pay. I went to college & still can't find any work. Anyone looking for a bookkeeper?

This is such a joke. Major is carrying water for Alloway who voted for the Democrat budget raising taxes $1 billion but is trying to look like a tax cutter by eliminating a $12,000 a year job. Matt is obviously running out of issues to write about.

If we can't eliminate these jobs, why don't we just lower the pay to $500 per year and no benifits. Problem solved.

The legislators ... and everyone else in the modern world ... already know this. They just won't do anything about it. As you noted, a guy actually ran for the Republican nomination in Franklin County this time on the platform of eliminating the "job," ... and he lost!!! Conservatives love to throw away money if it sounds like a tradition!

Good article MATT. I agree with you. Now if you would write about eliminating the tourism director of Franklin County who makes over a $1000.00 a week and is not needed; you would make my day and save the taxpayers a lot of money.

Yes, Eddie you are right. Why do we need a tourism director? I can't believe the salary; what does he/she do to earn that salary? Yes, eliminating the position could/would save money and the position would not be missed.

Jill and Eddie, I agree with you. Let's eliminate the job of tourism director and save some money.I too would like to know what this person does for $1,000. a week.

Oh yeah, the jury commissioners. It's way past time to get rid of these jobs. I thought patronage and nepotism went out with the 1980s?

Take a look at former GOP governor of Maryland, Robert Ehrlich. He now wants to run for reelection. His name came up during the DC Madam case as being one of her clients. I recall him meeting our locals at the Capitol Theater not long ago, trying to help us "save the county".
