The issue here is not the size of the school. Selling drugs is wrong--if you are bold enough to sell them the be bold enough to suffer the consequences when caught. If there was no wrong doing the DEA would not have come to the school. Stop making excuses for drug dealers---big school, little school, there are negative consequences for being involved in negative behavior. Please someone in America believe in morals and values, wrong is wrong for the rich and poor alike!!!!!

Which fraternities were these men in? I'm aware that all fraternities are involved in drug usage, but Phi Gam, ΣAE, KA, KΣ, AND ΣX are the coke frats, or so I was aware. Just looking for some clarification, not trying to point fingers.

Mandatory drug test in order to graduate would at least put a halt to half of the nonsense these kids do!

The same shit went down Greek Week of 1996. The same shit will go down again in the future. It is the nature of the beast. It has always been there. It always will be there. Even when you cut down the weed, it will grow tall over time in the future. People may start small, but the intoxication of money cannot be denied. It's really the natural course of events. Although I was by no means directly involved, I had personal knowledge of all facts and circumstances premised upon the fact that a good friend of mine went down. Simply put, people get sloppy, and it only takes one rat to take down a loosely run ship. Most of the people who get pinched are "collateral damage" in that they were small timers who were associated too closely with the big fish. The biggest problem is that the kids want to run a criminal enterprise, but don't have the mentality needed to survive long term in that enterprise.

I was there that day. And just to clear one thing up...the DEA and other law enforcement officials did not "raid" classrooms as it was stated above. They simply knocked on the door and asked the teachers if they could speak with the given student. This was a very low-key operation, meaning that law enforcement were trying to make every attempt not to draw a lot of attention while on campus. Yes, officers did wear bullet-proof vest while on campus but that is for their own protection. They do not know the students, nor did they know if the students had weapons. Also, no weapons were drawn, nor were there drugs dogs being dragged around.
Hampden-Sydney is a small school as far as student population is concerned but it is a largely known for the drugs that can be found on campus, which is what, I think, Jim was trying to say above.
Furthermore, to say that the police should have focused their efforts somewhere else is crazy. Most of these kids were charged federally, which means the possession or distribution of whatever drug was a significant amount. Sure, there are serious drug problems in the community, but problems on campus needed to be addressed also.
I do not think this is an issue of wealth but an issue of stupidity. These kids had everything going for them and made bad choices. Would most of you have the same reaction if this happened at an all male college, with mostly african-american students who came from less than fortunate homes? The answer, for most, will be NO...most would think they got what they deserved. Most of the kids at HSC are not sorry for what they did but for the fact they got caught. In order to catch the king-pin you have to start at the bottom.
As far as someone using this for the campaign, you're probably correct, however, wrong is wrong and these men were wrong for selling drugs...end of story.
This statement was right on. I know for a fact that some HSC men to this day (2009) habitually use and distribute drugs and abuse pledges and women.
The fact that the convicted HSC students got out of their 40 year prison sentences is proof that this was not "small times games". Their parents are very wealthy and connected and were able to get their convict children off. This is scary because what's next? Rape? Murder? Higher levels of drug distribution? The facts are people are afraid to come forward with certain crimes that have been committed because these parents will get their kids off with their money and connections.
I think the parents of HSC criminals need to do the right thing and let their children serve the time. Nothing is worse in this world than a parent who raises their child to believe they are above the law and then reinforces it when that child commits a crime. I do understand wanting to protect your child and if you do get them out of serving time YOU need to punish them by denying access to trusts, putting them into intensive drug rehab, etc. Don't ignore the fact that they are criminals! Stop spoiling your sons!!!

You can't go pointing your finger at one 1,000 person school when pledges get abused and women get raped at EVERY FUCKIN COLLEGE, including the all female ones.
Oh, and I'm still here, bout to finally finish. I personally have dealt with the blowback from the busts and I only have one thing to say: All of you people are full of shit, Chi Phi took the knife for everyone. We were the scapegoat, we took all the brunt of the punishment from Bortz and DAK, while the rest of the fraternities (and GDIs) got to sit on their asses and pretend they were hurting.
All the others got their second chances, except Chi Phi; Chi Phi was always hated by the administration. And you know what, they said it was because of a "history of poor citizenship." Thats funny, because it's right on point: we got kicked off because we didnt have the alumni donations streaming in like the other frats. Even the President of the Board was a fuckin Chi Phi, but he is so jaded and old that HE WANTED US TO GO DOWN.
So there you have it. Chi Phi got scapegoated out of HSC because the administration hated, and because we didn't bring in enough cash for the school.
Live by the shade, die by the shade.

of the 14 students arrested at H-SC, 7 of them were Virginia State charges. Of those 7, how many of them were convicted/pleaded guilty or cleared of charges? Anyone know where I could find a link to that info?

<quoted text>I totaly agree with you. My brother is getting started on his first year at HSC and my sisters boyfriend is finishing up there. I just heard about this but you have to understand that its human nature or should I say a pigs nature to go for the easy stuff. Like setting up a bunch of extreamly smart men of the future like the students at HSC who are getting an education and will be something great one day. All of the students were tricked and narked out in the most discusting dirty way possible. I lived in Farmville for most of my life, there are uneducated loosers who cause WAY Bigger problems than college students I know because I know the people they NEED to be put away like fathers to young children, abusive husbands who are in our military like my own soon to be ex husband. I know of hundreds of girls that are raped because of the "projects", and not to mention there are abosolutly horrible gang problems in Farmville. But whats being done? The easy lets set a trap and wait stuff, the lets get our quota and line our pockets caues its easy stuff. My sister was walking with a friend and found a womens dead body under an SUV not but a few weeks ago but every one is all hype about busting EDUCATED STUDENTS instead of the uneducated loosers passing out meth, crank, and crack. Its all "the good old boy" system and crooked cops in Farmville. All about the money!!!! To bad there are no more morals in this country!!
If these guys were educated as you claim then they would nt be selling drugs. I worked the midnight shift at hardees through college instead of selling drugs. These gusy are drug dealers and deserve lots of time in jail. When the criminals are white, we have every excuse for why they should not got to jail. When they are black you want to fry them for everything. Send these drug dealers to jail and make sure they do serious time for their major distribution operation. they are criminals. There is nothing good about people who sell drugs on college campuses. Incidently Richmond's commonwealth attorney dealt drugs while at UVA. He should be in jail too.

I agree totally, kill Trey Anderson, he is a huge fag!!! He had 3 DUI's and on his last charge he killed his Girlfriend in a car accident, lets see if this is fair... a person on involuntary manslaughter charges is able to reduce his charge by lying and decieving his peers to give information the police( AKA Mafia) to steal money and drugs....and then they use the money and drugs to sell back...c'mon American ppl wake up...this is horrible, we encourage people to lie and deceive one another

"I would rather have a bottle in front of my than a frontal labotomy"..."Don't let the horse out of the barn"...."Where do the ducks go when the pond freezes?"....."What did Lee say to the Roanoke Pigs? I don't know I had a pretty big lunch"....

Sorry about the brothers that missed out and lost the house. You are still brothers.

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Gemini

Beware wishful thinking because it will cloud your thoughts and lead to confusion. However, that's much easier said than done, because today you're showing distinct tendencies towards living in a rosy world of your own and ignoring any hard facts that are under your nose. Take care that you don't allow someone to dupe you simply because you aren't paying attention to what they're saying or doing.
