At any given time there are hordes of people driving on a suspended license.

You want to guess how many are suspended for failure to pay child support?

Perhaps law enforcement should go after these losers and take their license plates instead of waiting for them to get caught or be involved in an accident.

I don't think taking his license plates is going to work...he'll simply drive w/o any, steal some off of another vehicle, or use a friend/family member's vehicle. The ONLY way this guy is going to be kept off the road is by keeping him behind bars--& $500 cash/$1000 bond is not going to do it. If this isn't evidence that our system is a big joke, then I don't know what would be.

Both good points, but: Police are equipped with "plate reader" cars now. They have the ability to read the plate of any passing or parked license plate while on patrol. These plates are compared to a known list of Susp/Rev vehicles or operators. Because of this many many are caught but if you operate someones car who is not Susp/Rev the reader is unable to tell. And most are usimg others cars because of that. I agree, I hate the fact that uninsured and unlicensed peo are out there in big #'s. But were trying...:)

Why is this news? Must be the Ch 19 and the Ontario CO SO were having a slow day. Any idea how many times this happens in the City of Rochester on a daily basis. The number of drivers with multiple suspensions/revocations is staggering and local courts give those offenders a slap on the wrist.

Believe it or not, it's completely possible to insure a car, register it, get the plates and drive off WITHOUT a driverís license. I've done it.

Yeah. I've heard of people insuring cars without a driver's license. It's actually a good thing. That way when the guy who doesn't pay his child support slams into you. You still have a small chance he has insurance.

Maybe this poor, sad looking, guy. was going to work, or looking for a job. Someone could have helped him get his license. NOW. we have to pay the court system. and then probably support him? Lets all help keep unfortunate people on track. for everyones good.

I agree here. They suspend liscenses all the time for stupid reasons. Sometimes, they lost track of a PAID ticket, and forget to notify you. Sometimes, they suspend your liscense for an insurance lapse...This really affects poor people! and a lot of the times, they suspend liscences for people who owe Child Support. I worked iwth a guy who was in this situation. He had to depend on co-workers for rides to work, then when his ride called in sick, he was out sick too! Eventually, he missed so much work because his rides japped him, he lost his job! Poor guy was behind on his support payments becuase he lost his job after September 11th. The court didn't care though. Neither did the judge. Taking someone's liscense (making it almost impossible to get a job) because they owe money is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of! For all the crybabies who want to bash deadbeat dads...maybe these women should start thinking about who they're sleeping with. Can he provide? Does he have a decent job? Is he going to be herre in the future? Where is their responsibility??? Disclaimer: I have a valid liscense (never been suspended), and don't have any kids (and don't owe suppoort). I just think the whole system is stupid!

So........what would suggest they do to a person who is over $27,000 in arrears, quit his job a year and a half ago because he did not want to work anymore and is now collecting DSS??? Now you have HIS kids also on DSS and the taxpayer gets double whacked. Perhaps DSS should not be handing out our money willy nilly and these deadbeat losers might actually attemtp to work instead of sponge off of society and keep their drivers license!

Again, you kinda missed the point about child support. Women need to start thinking about who they're sleeping with....in case they get pregnant. Try picking a partner that can support children for crying out loud. Sure..They're deadbeats, but the women are the ones who chose to bear their child in the first place.
