These poor dogs..Thank God they were rescued. Puppy mills are inhumane and the dogs are kept in terrible living conditions. Hopefully the mills will continue to get discovered by rescue organizations and shut down.

Missouri and Arkansas? sounds like Ozark Hillbilly porch dogs.

Thank you for sharing such an important story about rescue. Too many people don't realize where their "cute puppies" really come from and the conditions the parent dogs are kept in for their entire lives. These dogs have never had a toy, laid on a couch, or gone for a walk, thankfully they have a chance at a much deserved better life to be a normal dog.

Porch dogs? These dogs weren't lucky enough to even have the luxury of being someone's porch dog. No, instead they were kept in cages/pins and bread constantly to produce puppies for our lovely pet stores. And at least a porch dog has a human to love it. These dogs are mostly seen as not a living and breathing thing that needs care but a money maker with little human interaction that is caring. Way to go ABC Basset Hound Rescue and all the volunteers in Iowa, Missouri and Arkansas who made this happen! Now these poor hounds can be placed into good homes where people will love them.

well, if they're purebred some loving Pittsford couple will hurry to adopt them...

Thank God for the various humane societies who struggle every day to care and find homes for the unwanted dogs (and cats) that they rescue from near death off the streets.

Shame on anyone that would inflict this kind of pain on any animal. I think anyone that abuses any animal should have to live in the same conditions they inflicted on the animal.

I have a 3 yr old Basset Hound. By far the best mannered dog I have ever owned. Not a mean bone in their body. Despite what you read about these dogs, they can be trained and are much smarter than they get credit for. I would love to take on another but just dont have the time right now.

I'd like to take a sledgehammer to the privates of the puppy mill owners!!

Bassets are awesome pets, we had one years ago and it was nothing but love and sweetness!

I have nor will I ever buy a dog or cat from a pet store. We just lost our 13 yr old lab/shepard to cancer 3 1/2 weeks ago, and our cat to kidney failure the next day. I am going to be one of the very very fortunate to adopt one of these dogs. To everyone who was involved in the rescue of all of these helpless dogs my hat off to you, and to the driver who brought them all to NY Thank you Thank you!!! And to Mr. Proud Suburbanite Get a Life, there is no room for ignorant, arrogant, stuck up people like you, bet you never had a pet in your life just your fancy cars and enough maxed out credit cards to choke a horse, those material things always nice companionship,

Having gone through ABC last year, and who now has the privelage of being owned by a 3 year old Basset, I can say without hessitation she is the best dog I have ever had, period. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body, lives for belly rubs and has the perfect energy level, is very intelligent (contrary to what some might otherwsie think of them) and has personality all her own. I can't recommend ABC or the breed enough. Say no to Pet Stores and their overinflated prices, and say yes to a rescue Bassett. Those big brown sad eyes will get to you in a heart beat and you won't regret it.
