I hope the board did its homework especially if Tommy Lewis is the selected candidate. He has a long history in education that needs to be scrutinized.

I'm a Navajo and I agree with Tom & Teacher's comments. I sure do hope you CCSD board members did your homework. Didn't you read the Navajo Times about Mr. Tommy Lewis and why he was let go or resigned from Tuba City School?? Just a heads up!!!! I'm a concern parent because my children attend school in Kirtland and numerous nieces and nephews. So BOARD MEMBERS, PLEASE THINK TWICE ABOUT LEWIS!

Y'all are missing the point! It's not so much about race for CCSD's superintendent decision as it is about who those REALLY IN CHARGE of CCSD -- i.e., Randy Manning, the de facto school board King, and brother Byron Manning, the finance Czar -- can CONTROL.

They want the most PLIANT of the 3 finalists to be their supe, the "yes" man (or woman) who will carry out the Mannings' hidden edicts unflinchingly, without question, thereby continuing unilateral decision-making from the Kirtlandlites -- who have always TRUMPED the will of the Shiprock Navajo majority despite Kirtlandites' minority status.

The new superintendent thereby CANNOT and WILL NOT be a deep thinker, just a STATUS QUO person who will keep CCSD heading in the horribly wrong direction it has been since the Mannings took charge. Rozana Clah is in their hip pocket, playing texty-wexty with Randy on their cells during board sessions, while Hoskie is trying to run a meeting!

SO -- which of these three supe finalists is the LEAST independent-thinking of the group, the softest, the most willing to keep things as they are, which means doing Randy and Byron's bidding?
THAT IS WHO WILL BE HIRED!!!!!!

I am not Navajo but I feel that if there is a QUALIFIED Navajo applicant, then go for it!!! Obviously, however, Lewis is not qualified and will only lead our District down more than it ever has been!!! He is known for never "being in the office," allowing the Manning Boys - Bye and Randy - to govern our District just has they have (save for a few months that Bill Noland has been in) for the past 10 years. Some Board members cannot see past the end of their nose! I understand their concerns of their Navajo Children learning, but do they honestly think that the great big world we live in will cater to their language and beliefs if they ever leave the Reservation. They will only be doing them a grave inservice by not allowing them to learn as all other children do!!!!!!

While I am hearing good and bad on this man/candidate, to recall the DINE members is soooooo crazy!!! The ones who have and continue to destroy the District is Randy Manning and his sidekick, Rozana Lopez! This post was probably sent by Randy or Byron themselves. They would nothing more than to see the Navajo community turn on their own and let these snakes take over. Who knows if this is a good decision or not, time will tell but be very afraid of the destructive messages like this which divides our community for sure.RECALL MANNING & LOPEZ!

If they just wanted a Navajo, why did they not select the Navajo candidates who applied for Noland's position? I presume they felt they were not qualified. And if being a Navajo is the ONLY qualification, this would have happened. Don't make rush judgements from gossip, look at the history first. And I think you are talking about Charles Hayes, who was before Noland. He was the one who never did anything and released all powers to the Manning boys, not Lewis! Get your facts straight.

I am from this District, and my facts are straight. I am also referring to Besset - but obviously you do not know what I am talking about. She also released all powers to the Manning "Boys." Maybe you need to get your facts straight. Regarding Lewis, I have done my homework, and it's extremely evident that even Dine College and the Navajo Nation do not feel that is qualified has he held both of those positions for less than 1 year. I have sat in forums while various people from our District have stated that because we are 90% Navajo that we need a Navajo Super. All I was saying that I think this would be a wonderful opportunity, if the cadidate is QUALIFIED.(and being fired from two previous positions does not make a candidate qualified!!!!)

CCSD needs and deserves a qualified and capable NAVAJO superintendent who can serve the educational needs of ALL the children of CCSD.

Tommy Lewis is NOT that person.

CCSD wasted $30,000 on this search. They should demand their money back. The staff who recommended that company to the Board should be reprimanded.

They had a great candidate when they were looking for an interim superintendent but they passed that person over for another. That individual was highly qualified.
People shouldn't be quick to make assumptions because no one knows the actual story behind each candidate.

They had a person who looked great on paper, but who lacked the skills to manage a school district. That person only showed up because she had been misled by one of the Board members who made her believe that she was applying for the PERMANENT Superintendent position. She thought she was going to walk right into a six-figure salary without having to do any paperwork, just a handshake and a smile. Yet when that position was advertised again a couple months later, that candidate does not seem to have applied. Why? Was completing a full application packet too much work for her?

I could be wrong--only the Board really 1knows who the nine other candidates were besides Tommy Lewis, Kaye Peery, and Javier Abrego, or the ones who didn't even make the final list of 12. If you know otherwise, then tell us.

You're one of the Board members, aren't you? I will leave it to everyone else to guess which one. Your post in the other thread gave you away.

So tell us why you chose Tommy Lewis, despite his track record of tearing apart every institution that employs him?

LOL! Me a board member! U must be outta ur mind. If I was,I wouldn't have time to be reading posts on internet. I'm just a parent with a kid at CCSD & a former student there. I'm as clueless as you are and waiting for what the media would spit out.

Not so convinced. Anyway, you don't have to wait, the Navajo Times confirmed that it's Tommy Lewis. Speaking as someone who dealt with him before, I would recommend that you pull your child out of CCSD before he takes office. Tommy Lewis is the one person who can actually screw up CCSD even worse than it has been.

If you do it, Ms. R, you won't be the only Board member whose kids attend school outside CCSD! You can be the new Rozana.

None of the candidates, are great. We have a dysfunctional district with a negative reputation and this is what we got, it ain't getting better until the district makes a dramatic shift. And getting rid of the corruption, incompetanct administrators, is a start. Let's move on, we could be doing searces forever.

actually, unofficial until the board meeting in shiprock and voted. so, parents and community members have time to voice their concerns regarding mr. lewis and not have him hired. however, that is not going to happen. this hiring process was an entirely waste of time and money, honestly, and i am navajo, NAVAJO'S cannot manage large businesses and schools that are funded through federal, state, tribal money. easy way to make money for themselves, just budget in little there and a little over here, and use equipment, vehicles, property for themselves, oh i better stop rambling, terrible situation the board has put on our future leaders.

I work at a school and conditions there aren't any better even though our bosses are all non-Navajos. I don't know why schools across the rez are the way they are. I only wish & hope that people put kids first. Afterall they're the reasons why we have jobs.
