Dakota County had a SWAT team consisting of officers from many different county law enforcement departments since at least 1988 - long before Dave Bellows rode Gudmunson's coat tails into the Sheriff's Department. Then, as now, it was called the Mutual Aid Assistance Pact and included officers from AT LEAST South St. Paul, Inver Grove Heights, and Farmington as well as the Sheriff's Department.
The county has been operating just like Pawlenty: cut costs and dump the costs lower on the human chain - the cities' ability to maintain services is being increasingly jeopardized. We need office holders who look at the BIG PICTURE!

The Sheriff's Office was not a part of the SWAT team you are referencing until 2005 or so. They had their own team until, under Bellows' leadership, they merged with the team you are calling the Mutual Aid Assistance Pact. Dispute that if you so desire, it is fact. He saved money, improved service, reduced redundant services, and increased collaboration with area agencies. It seems to me that is what we want and should demand from our elected officials.

The candidate for this office that is experienced and capable of looking at the big picture is Dave Bellows. He has been doing it for 10 years with great success.

Observer you clearly are a big Scott supporter and also have a lot of time on your hands - judging by the number of posts you have in this forum.

Your comment on police chiefs only supporting Bellows because of a fear of retribution dismisses the option taken most often by chiefs in political races. Chiefs typically do not publicly endorse candidates. Check the Ramsey Co sheriffs race and you will see most chiefs have stayed out of the endorsing process. In addition, there are retired chiefs who are endorsing Bellows. Why would they fear retribution? After all, they're retired and out of the business. It appears the chiefs in Dakota County actually support the current sheriff and believe he should be elected on Tuesday to continue serving the residents of Dakota County.

Just because a bunch of Chiefs endorse a guy means nothing. I have worked for Bellows and I can tell you, he micro manages and he tries to intimidate or bully people if he does not get his way. He is 55 and I have asked myself why Dave is running.. I know when we worked together he road Don's coat tails, so maybe he feels he needs to do this so he can say he finally got something on his own. The Chiefs are just one person and some of them don't even live in the County let alone State. So I would look at the officers support first and from what I have heard Scott has the majority of them. So I would say go Scott and good luck.
