Worked for Meijer for just about 4 months. "You can go to school and work for us." WRONG! Summited a new schedule 2 weeks before school started. Nope, you need to work during your old schedule. Screw them. I am not going to miss class. Management is a joke. Half don't know what is going on, the other half don't care. I don't see how this dump is still open. They started this 'supercenter' thing, but Walmart it so much bigger. Now I see why.

For those they say "Well quit, no one is forcing you to work there"" This is the problem with Meijer they promise you one thing, you commit your time and gas and money to getting that jobs, then they screw you...and all you naysayers just ignore it. Meijer sux BECAUSE they LIE to people to get them to commit and in this job market, you may have no choice but to stay for now.

I've been working at meijer for over 2 years and I'm happy with working in GM. I've worked in HBC, I cover in electronics regularly, I've helped out in fashion many a time, and I run lane a lot. The GM (and E4) management is great at my location. The get rationally upset with people who don't take their jobs seriously and screw around. But they still rarely take any harsh action on it. People get away with quite a lot that they shouldn't. A lot of people here have reviewed that management is lazy. Doing your work for you is not in the managers job description. They have their own work to do, and supervising you is part of that. I go to school and I work and they are VERY cool with working around my schedule. Whenever I have changes in my availability I have to remind the store director 2 - 3 times when they schedule me during class, but they always fix it. They are, however, very understaffed, especially on cashiers. They constantly have GM up on lane and it makes it hard to get our work done when we are on lane all day. Because of the new thing with the union, they cut part times hours to 25 hours, but with being asked to come in I typically had 30 - 40 hours and now I'm getting a new position where I'm promised 40 hours a week. As a part time job it is a perfectly alright place to work. It has flaws, but it's incredibly easy money.

Dear tony, you are so right if you have not study the law don't work for merijer because your rights are taken from you ,they treat you like mass ,and on top of that the union act like they work for merijer then you ,you have to call and ask could you use the rest room if you don't someone would be standing out that door to write you up and another thing after all the departments they give you to work everyday they say no over time but you can't get out on time because your trach and stock hads to go to the back stock room every night and another thing after you work your butt off around there you are then call to the office and wrote up because they say you work to slow ,don't leave and forget to call and say your leaving even if your manger looked at you in your face and saw you leaving even if he say by you are still going to get wrote up because you didn't call that's what my manger told me .let me just say that this last year at merijer hads been one i will never for get working the nights is very painful because of poor management they are young and bum they get even have a clue on what a manger should do or how to talk to people take a class on how to be one before you take that jump and put people lifes in the hand of someone that need mental help them self they would have people killing themselves .all in how they talk to you or any of the employees at work your job is not support to cause stress on you it should be a place to work and release your stress peaceful..you should be happy you have a job you can retired from so you and your family don't have to be on the street love youself and your family don't let your kids help them go to school to fine better jobs out here...stay true to you..love

I've worked at Meijer for 6 months. The previous letter's I've read are TRUE!Employees are expected to cover their department and sometimes two to three other departments! One night an employee friend of mine was carrying "5" department phone's, where was the help for those other area's? That's just CRAZY!!!!! You get written up for , going home sick, calling off work because your sick, clocking in 2 minutes late from break or 2 minutes late getting to work. What about traffic or trains??? I got a point for improper call in, my dept. head wasn't there, i told another manager, what a crock!! Too much stress!I guess you "PUKE" at work, wouldn't that be cool! Stay at work and spread the flu, the dept. head would like that!! Im done the more i write the more upset I get I'm looking for another job,SOON!!!!!

After reading each and every comment before my response, I want to say to those whom worked at Meijer for 1 day and those brave enough to stay 35 years, every word of what you wrote here is the absolute truth!
Myself, been at Meijer for 2 years. This is the worse employment mistake I have ever made. The same problems exist in my store as yours. The mgmt. lies to their employees, talk to employees like they are dogs, ask you to work up to 5 peoples jobs by yourself, if you get injured, they blame you, Meijer is disorganized, non communicative, ignorant, obnoxious, disrespectful, and the lowest order of humanity in existence!
I hope all of the owners go straight to Hell!

After all these years that I have been working at meijer, they are cutting my hours. The more you do, they expect you to do more. They dont treat anyone with respect. They work you to death. They are hiring new employees but cutting off my hours. I have way more seniority than these new people. Why would you hire more people if there arent any available hours. They do have favorites and are prejudice.

In my personal opinion, Meijer is probably the best place to work. If you start out yes it sucks. But if you are a negative person you can find negatives in anything. When I was 17 I started as a bagged/ cart pusher this was 2003.. It sucked but I gutted it out. It instilled a strong work ethic in me, it taught me how to be small yet out work everyone else. I probably would be a team leader by now if I fully invested myself. But as long as you don't let the lifers bring you down, you can dominate at meijer.

If you ignore everyone complaining when you start out you will be alright and make it. Every store is different, and every time store directors change the environment changes. I've been sent to help at several stores, and everyone is different. But if you want a job where you can grow or where your minimum wage one day becomes 15 an hour.. This is a solid place.

I've only worked at Meijers for about 2 and a half months. It's not all bad but it usually tends to piss me off. I have maybe 1 good service coordinator, they never have enough cashiers and I'm always forced to stay late. They don't ask me if I can stay later they TELL me I'm staying later. I worked till 11:15pm one day and mind you I have to take the bus and the last one to leave is 10:30pm so I can to convince my brother to pick me up since my mom has to be home with my little sister while they sleep and my brother has his own job and has been busy packing to move so it was hard to get a ride from him in the first place, so here I am, 30mins till I'm done for the night and they tell me I have to stay until 2am! So I explain to them about the bus and my ride and I called my brother and he couldn't come back at 2am to get me cause his Fiancee needed the car but they still make me stay. So I got out at 2am and had to wait 4 HOURS inside Meijers until the first bus came and finally allowed me to get home. They are CONSTANTLY scheduling me when I'm not available so I'm always calling in and then of course they add a point. I even personally talked to a manager and he went on the computer to check my availability and he showed me himself that it was put it on they were still scheduling me for the wrongs times when I wasn't available, and one time I called in because of it and they said that they would not accept my call and if I didn't come in I'd get in trouble. Sick of them walking all over employees, there was a time where I got out at 10:45pm but the last bus was 10:30 so I asked the only good service coordinator there if I could leave 15 minutes early and she said it'd be completely OK but then when I had to go a different SC told me I couldn't leave and I had to stay till my out time..!

I have been working for meijer for about a year now. It honestly has it's UPS and DOWNS like a lot of jobs do. Me and three other people who are fairly young got asked to be managers in the next two to three years. I'm 20 the others are 26, 22, 19. They wanted us because there's many openings for promotions and they feel we work our butts off for being young.(in other words do things that need to be done without being told by a manager) I am really grateful to have a big chance of moving up, because my situation it'sN hard for me to go to school. I'm one of those "guys" that don't wanna pay back the loans because my career job would be music education and if I would actually get my career job I went to school for it would be too hard to pay it back. So the UPS for me has to be possibly getting moved up for working my butt off. The DOWNS gotta be how your Co workers are. For instance, if they are lazy, like to call in a lot, etc. the service coordinators that call you when you are very busy at your own job (I'm general merchandise) and the negativity and the drama and of course sometimes how the customers treat you :p my manager told me you get good money for what you do. I'll tell you if you just expect to work their the rest of your life without moving up and living off of the cutoff you get is a bad idea. Some contracts end at 10.60 while managers get bonuses and start at like 12 as a trainee and then go to 15 and up (depending how long they worked there) so it's a okay job as a worker. I think it'll be better once the opportunity to move up comes for sure.

Worked in pharmacy till recently. Very busy and lots to learn. I thought I was doing.well. At least that's what I would hear at least once a week from a pharmacist. No one ever had a problem with me and no complaints of any kind. Then I get pulled into the office, asked to sit down and then fired. The official reason was I didn't smile enough! Okay, if I had a review or a verbal warning and continued to not smile I could understand. Not one word of anything negative. When she fired me I said that not.smiling was news to me and I had no idea it was a problem. I said can I work on it at least and her response was.that in her experience it wouldn't help! Strange that off all the new hire techs I was fired being the only one thats not 22 and a girl. Heck, I witnessed other techs losing scripts! Handing out wrong meds and I'm fired for not smiling. F meijer pharmacy!

my wife works at meijer; I have listened to her complain about the store Director's for 20 years.
She started when Fred Meijer was still alive and active in the Company. Now his fuckhead son Hank runs the place with his college buddies and the turned it over to some Bitch from hell to run. The women is a snake with memo's coming out of her ass. Told my wife to quit about once a month. I think she 's just about ready. Fuck Meijer, it's just another job I tell her. She has seen 5000 people go through her store in 20 years there, and that's all that place is , a revolving door of minimum wage workers.

Anyone have any idea what paper i need to fill out to opt out of these ridiculous union dues? Or even who in HR to ask for them? Other than that management doesnt listen to anything when it comes to availability.... im going to college full time, meaning 16-18hrs a week and 4-5 classes. Yet they still try to schedule me to work on school days and push the 40hr weeks when i was told part time employees like myself top out at 25-30 hrs....bull.

Finally out of there. Worst place I've ever worked. Extremely Under staffed, over worked, managed by fear and brow beatings. No reasoning allowed. How does this management live with themselves? Wow!!!
