The only person whose behavior exhibits dignity and integrity is Paul Fetherston's. I trust he is serving the taxpayers of Canton in similar fashion.

When Paul Featherston was hired, he represented that he would be an "agent of change". As a member of the BoS that selected him, we welcomed that sentiment. The citizens of our community were seeking more "accountability" from our department heads and we believed Paul would bring that. He has. I'm confident that every decision Paul has made has been based on what he thought was best for Canton, even though I haven't agreed with him on many of those decisions. I wonder whether some of those who are leaving are taking "shots" at Paul because he refused to grant more favorable treatment that they may have been afforded by our prior CAO. The criticisms I have heard about Paul, frankly, amount to little more than "griping" as a result of his insistence that procedures be followed and his refusal to grant "favors" which employees may have become accustomed to under our prior CAO. I know that in one instance, a department head left for another opportunity that paid far more the the job she was vacating. In another instance, the department head left to the collective relief of the community due to her gross negligence and wilfull misconduct. To say or infer that somehow Featherston was culpable in these resignations does him, and ultimately, the community, a disservice. Having been involved in many issues that have been "covered" by the newspapers, I have observed that what you read is like an iceberg...most of the truth lies below the surface. And things are never as they appear.
And one other thing....why doesn't anyone reveal their identity in these blogs?

Mark - I miss Canton and the Canton seniors that I left behind almost four years ago. Make sure they get an equally talented person to serve them. Meanwhile, get your ice pick and dig a little deeper. Ask the right question. You haven't found the truth yet.

Hi Rose- Since I'm not on the BoS now and have no input into the decision-making process, I'm not so sure I'm necessarily looking for the "truth", whatever that is. It is my experience the the "truth" is a vague and variable concept, since we all have our own definition of what "truth" is. I can say that the criticism that I have heard directed at Paul seems to be what I had indicated earlier- griping. I have never heard of any unfairness, or of treating some employees more favorably than others, or of saying one thing and doing another, or of deceitfulness,or anything remotely calling into question his integrity or dedication to his job. Based upon what I have observed, I can't say that about all of those who have resigned. Several people have indicated that "they know why" this person or that person resigned. I'm curious how someone would know someone's else's motivation for doing anything, especially leaving a job, since many times, these intensely personal decisions are made for reasons that even the person making them may not be aware of at the time, or are at least not so candid about why they're making those decisions. Very often, the reason a person gives "publicly" about leaving a job are different than the reason(s) they are actually leaving. Further, your implication in suggesting that I haven't found the truth yet is that, in fact, you have found it. Interesting. I wonder how many people and to whom you have spoken to find it.

I doubt that a person 4 years and 428 miles removed from Canton has substantial first-hand knowledge about a CAO that arrived a year ago. Heresay and rumor run rampant in towns. Canton is no exception.

Why did the first selectwoman of Canton approach the town electorate for the appropriation of funds for an EMS study and upon being rejected state that she will find the money elsewhere. If there is money "elsewhere" why don't you put it towards the tank replacement. You can be just as easily replaced this November. Follow the wishes of the taxpayers and put the study to rest.

To "Mind Made Up", There are probably salamanders where they want to put those tanks. I bet if there were salamanders on the Volunteer Ambulance staff they wouldn't try to get rid of it. I am going to vote for a salamander this year. Thank god salamanders are republicans.

We in Canton need to go back to the old days. The First Selectwoman and the CAO need to be run out of town on a Rail. I'm sure we will be able to find one at the new Lowes.
