I don't think he should be punished at all -- it's just free speech. It's not like he was their Psychiatrist or some trusted authority. No one said they had to obey his suggestions.

Does this mean that if I tell some of my facebook friends they should chop their hand off, and they do, then I'm guilty of causing disability?

Absolutely ridiculous.
