Review: The Jayhawks play that sweet, familiar sound

Full story: TwinCities.com

When Mark Olson left alt-country band the Jayhawks in 1995, he not only walked away from a group that seemed to be on the ascent - thanks to increasing critical acclaim and a major-label deal - but he subtracted himself from a marvelous harmonic tandem with Gary Louris.

The Jayhawks music is the same three chords that have been done a billion times before and the singing style is nothing new or special.
Never understood the poplularity for this style of music, it is boring, it lacks in drive and it's corny.
The Black Crowes, that is a dynamic sound!

The Jayhawks most certainly did not play "Big Star" or any other post-Olson Jayhawks songs. Otherwise, a pretty good review. Did the 'Hawks really have a bigger crowd than the Black Crowes?

Dave,
the crowd for the Crowes was much larger than the Jayhawks....probably a 60/40 ratio.........great night out there though. The Crowes set was VERY good for being a festival show, as the years go on The Black Crowes continue to prove how great they really are. Gary Louris was on the side of the stage waiting to join C&R Robinson for the encore, but the 10:30 curfew prevented that from happening.
