I like how the news gets increasing more and more spun. The fact is, the police were going to question a suspicious, innocent until proven guilty man, and he tries to evade them.
In pursuit ie chasing him, he ends up at the river and jumps in, trying to swim across. The individual at this point is using very bad judgement and should be assumed intoxicated, endangering his own life.
The police and fireman are at the river with an attempt to rescue by throwing him a donut!?!? What is that! They have gear, why not jump in and save the drowning man, who is not known to even be guilty of any crime.
So now due to their negligence a man is dead. A investigation should follow, but instead the create a smear campaign on how bad a person he is and include his father. We can only assume how they acquired the negative quote from the father, a twisting of story how this criminal died.
Nice work! "To Protect and Serve"
