Falmouth Wind Turbine Sale Backfires on Gov Patrick

"If you want to see the future, come to Falmouth," Massachusetts Gov Patrick said.
The Falmouth commercial wind turbine dedicated last year is the first of two planned for the treatment facility site, said Falmouth's assistant town manager and the town's project manager for the turbine project.
A construction contract for the second turbine which will be equal in size and power output to the first one was signed with a Woburn-based construction company .That project is expected to benefit from federal stimulus money.
The Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC) was stuck with two Vestas V 82 commercial wind turbines in 2004 at $3500.00 per month storage fees in a warehouse in Texas. The MTC was state's semi quasi economic development agency for renewable energy.
The costs of the turbines were 5.2 million dollars. The Massachusetts
Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) has since taken over the many duties of the MTC.
The turbines were so old they were out of warranty. The semi quasi state agency had to produce good wind turbine studies for towns interested in wind turbines and sell these two politically embarrassing turbines to some town in Massachusetts.
Some residents of Falmouth, Mass. say they're suffering headaches, insomnia and depression because of a 400-foot tall town-owned wind turbine that began operating there last year.
Because of its strong winds, Cape Cod is a crucial part of Governor Deval Patricks plan to erect enough wind turbines to power 800,000 home by the end of the decade a quarter of them on land. But complaints about a wind turbine in Falmouth are raising the possibility that one bad experience could jeopardize Patricks state-wide push for wind energy.
The two older gear driven Vestas V 82 foreign made commercial wind turbines were repurchased in 2010 like a used car using an EPA waiver to use 2009 stimulus funds to purchase the turbines by the Town of Falmouth in 2010. The turbines were purchased the first time in 2004 .There are still issues of how federal stimulus funds were used to buy two commercial wind turbines that were built and bought in 2004 and resold with NO warranty in 2010 !
