Wind energy hearing: It's all about control

Oct 21, 2011 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Cape Cod Times

Neil Andersen of Falmouth, an unhappy neighbor of the Wind I turbine there, tells legislators building more turbines on the Cape "would be like trying to put 12 beach balls in an egg carton." HYANNIS - It's not every day that a phalanx of state lawmakers descends on Cape Cod to hear from the public on any issue, much less a topic as controversial ... (more)

"If you want to see the future, come to Falmouth," Massachusetts Gov Patrick said.

The Falmouth commercial wind turbine dedicated last year is the first of two planned for the treatment facility site, said Falmouth's assistant town manager and the town's project manager for the turbine project.

A construction contract for the second turbine — which will be equal in size and power output to the first one — was signed with a Woburn-based construction company .That project is expected to benefit from federal stimulus money.

The Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC) was stuck with two Vestas V 82 commercial wind turbines in 2004 at $3500.00 per month storage fees in a warehouse in Texas. The MTC was state's semi quasi economic development agency for renewable energy.

The costs of the turbines were 5.2 million dollars. The Massachusetts
Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) has since taken over the many duties of the MTC.

The turbines were so old they were out of warranty. The semi quasi state agency had to produce good wind turbine studies for towns interested in wind turbines and sell these two politically embarrassing turbines to some town in Massachusetts.

Some residents of Falmouth, Mass. say they're suffering headaches, insomnia and depression because of a 400-foot tall town-owned wind turbine that began operating there last year.

Because of its strong winds, Cape Cod is a crucial part of Governor Deval Patrick’s plan to erect enough wind turbines to power 800,000 home by the end of the decade – a quarter of them on land. But complaints about a wind turbine in Falmouth are raising the possibility that one bad experience could jeopardize Patrick’s state-wide push for wind energy.

The two older gear driven Vestas V 82 foreign made commercial wind turbines were repurchased in 2010 like a used car using an EPA waiver to use 2009 stimulus funds to purchase the turbines by the Town of Falmouth in 2010. The turbines were purchased the first time in 2004 .There are still issues of how federal stimulus funds were used to buy two commercial wind turbines that were built and bought in 2004 and resold with NO warranty in 2010 !

Gov Patrick said :"Now it's a matter of public record." The governor was eliciting laughter in the courtroom trial of Sal Dimasi. He also said :"Are there no secrets?"

He admitted his email pseudonym is Sally Reynolds .

This was not the case a few months ago when the state refused to release the email code name used with ocean wind contractors and the power companies in an effort to double and triple our electric bills over a ten year period with expensive ocean wind turbine renewable energy. The state will not be required to reveal a pseudonym Governor Patrick uses in e-mail that was redacted from documents.

What was in those emails ? They should be public record ! Why does the Governor of Massachusetts use code names to conduct state business?

As of June 1,2011 - State officials will also produce a computer disc with 300 e-mails. The emails have to do with renewable energy wind contracts and contractors.

If the Nantucket Wind project has been treated like any other energy project why was the governor using the email pseudonym as Sally Reynolds?

How do the energy project leaders and executive officers agree on various pseudonyms ?
