A 17-year-old Falls City teenager is facing charges in Nebraska and Kansas following a pursuit Wednesday evening.
Richardson County Sheriff Randy Houser says a Nebraska State Patrol Trooper spotted the teen driving an alleged stolen pickup around 5 Wednesday evening west of Falls City.

Houser says the teen was taken into custody following a foot pursuit
No one was hurt a result of the pursuit.
The teen is facing charges in connection with burglaries at the Cross Winds Restaurant and Falls City Country Club west of Falls City. Liquor and cash was stolen from both businesses.
The pickup the teen was driving, a 1981 Chevy owned by Victoria Carpenter of Falls City, had been reported stolen Wednesday morning.
In addition to charges in Richardson County, the teenager is also expected to face a number of charges in Brown County.

An unnamed, 17-year-old male juvenile faces a number of felony and misdemeanor charges in Nebraska and Kansas following a high-speed pursuit Wednesday evening.

At approximately 5:15 Wednesday evening Trooper Jerry Chab with the Nebraska State Patrol spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen heading south on Highway 75 between 75 and Highway 73. Chab then radioed for assistance from another trooper with the NSP as well as the Richardson County Sheriff's Office.

The pursuit continued south and west and authorities initiated a traffic stop on 647 Avenue and Highway 8, but the subject refused to stop and actually sped up to nearly 90 miles per hour. The subject then turned west on another county road and entered Falls City on 14th Street. Authorities stayed with the subject who then led them south on Highway 73 towards Kansas and it was at that time authorities in Brown County, KS, were notified.

The pursuit then continued through Reserve, Padonia, and south into Hiawatha before eventually ending just south of Falls City. The suspect was apprehended north of the water treatment facility following a short foot chase.

The stolen 1981 Chevy half-ton pickup belongs to Tori Carpenter, who resides at 1701 Dewey St. Carpenter reported the pickup missing just after 8 a.m. Wednesday morning. Carpenter told investigators with the Falls City Police Department that the vehicle had to have been stolen between the hours of 10 p.m. Tuesday night and 7:30 Wednesday morning.

Chief of Police John Caverzagie with the FCPD told the Journal that at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday night, Kwik Shop reported a gas drive-off and the description of the pickup matched that of the stolen one. A search for the truck yesterday was unsuccessful. Caverzagie noted however that a Shell gas station in Lincoln also reported a gas drive-off during the day Wednesday, which subsequently led to Trooper Chab looking for the pickup to return to Richardson County Wednesday afternoon.

Additionally, evidence was found in the pickup linking the suspect to two burglaries that occurred during the same time frame.

Crosswinds Restaurant and the Falls City Country Club were burglarized either late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. Evidence found in the stolen pickup linked the suspect to the businesses. Extensive damage was done to both businesses who reported missing cash, liquor and other items to the Richardson County Sheriff's Office Wednesday. It is initially believed the suspect acted alone in the burglaries.

Regarding the stolen pickup and the gas drive-off the juvenile has been charged with theft by unlawful taking, criminal trespassing, no operator's license and theft in Richardson County. All other charges are still pending.

The juvenile is being held in the Lancaster County Youth Services Center in Lincoln.
