Hellow
Our family and friends will not shop there anymore. They suport the silver springs woodtreatment plant which is stinking up the whole town.We have been at the store when it stunk so bad we are sure the food the people the store are all contaminated.
We have lived here for 10 years and this is a big problem of our town. This has ben a problem sense they have changed ther foumula to a more toxic smelly whiches brew. They can lie all they want but the truth can be in the cancer culster in and around the plant including the workers <the poor workers> they are informed poorly about the toxins they release to our towns air and bring home to ther familys. The plant has alot of turnover becuse the place makes people sick! I was told by a former worker of vomiting up green arsnic while working near and around a leakin arsnic pipe!Is this the type of planing we want.
Citizens of silver springs stand up for your rights to breath clean air. Go to the planing commision to ask them to adress the real issue.
They can and must do better.
Goodday fellow citizens

Dear concerned citizen,

I believe your poorly written erroneous statement about the wood treatment plant and Village Market is deplorable. With how much money Village Market and NWP donate to the community with out them both there would be no Silver Springs, Nevada was we know it. Secondly my family lived as close as you can get to the wood treatment plant for years, and we never smelled anything besides the occasionally waft of diesel which is expected unless you want to outlaw diesel. NWP has always been within the county, state, and federal regulations. Also it is impossible to vomit up green arsenic unless the person drank it willingly. My final point is this "Cancer Cluster" you described doesn't exist, very few cases are diagnosed in Silver Springs and a majority of people who have cancer out here moved here after the diagnosis.

Sincerely,
Happy Citizen

To point out what you guys are truly missing out of this whole thing let me break it down to you.THE CLOSING DOWN OF VILLAGE MARKET AND THE WOOD TREATMENT PLANT WOULD KILL SILVER SPRINGS.

Not only would these closures bring about a sure end to silver springs but would also do damage to Lyon county as a whole. Nevada Wood Preserving pays a large sum in taxes every fiscal year. With out that money that means no new park equipment for your children to play on,no new school books, and a halt or slowdown of many resources that Silver Springs and Lyon county need.
If village Market were to close down it would make the economy of Silver Springs Nevada to CRUMBLE. Case in point There are two gas stations out here which keep prices regulated due to competition well if Village were to go out of business it would cause a major upset in local food prices. Your plan for a boycott of these establishments is under thought at best.
On a side note Casinos cash the employees checks so with the running logic here we should boycott them to and totally destroy Silver Springs? While were at it the local bars take the money that those employees make lets close them down, how about the thrift store they sure do give those boots away cheap, oh and who could forget the auto shops the workers use.

P.S. The saying goes "Stupid is as Stupid does" not Stuped. and I still live here which is why I use the name Happy Citizen not Former Citizen.

You all are weird, and with the exception of happy, I'm guess non older than 13. In any event I just moved to the area (stagecoach to be exact) but I visit said market and yes, there is a distinct odor. Having also worked at a paper plant I have an inkling as to what might or might not be in the air and as a land owner in the area I would be concerned, but not irate. So long as the state does it's job[sic] then things should be fine. After all who better to trust then the local politicians and corporate sponsored regulators :)

(And for goodmans sake use spell check!)

Thanks for your thought on the matter Cash and the state is doing their job the smell is unavoidable and the plant themselves are also taking preventative measures.

Actually you are exactly right about something now who cares no other town will have it. You know why? Silver Springs Nevada is the only place in Northern Nevada that has enough vacant space to have a wood treatment plant. The reason it is not allowed anywhere else is because no where else has the proper clearance away from housing.

Now we will examine your next statement in which you allude that all the plant accomplishes is storing logs? You do realize that without wood polls in Nevada and California provided by NWP we would have to use metal polls. Metal polls cost 300% more to install and have to be replaced ever 10 years due to rusting. Added cost from that would double your phone, internet, and power bills.

Your remark about toxic chemicals in your house makes me laugh. If you use bleach fabric softener or own a computer you most likely have higher chemical rates inside then outside.

Also you misspelled because. The reason spelling is important is because if your spelling is correct your opinion shows signs of education. If you cannot spell correctly on forums and blog posts then you shouldn't post.

I see you must work there.
Surly you do not know what you are talking about!
All of the chemicals they use are to close to town now that they have tripled the amount of of stinking logs in their yard!
The whole town has to suffer!
I Have no cares of what the stinking logs are used for!
This is an chemical attack on our town and that is the truth!
They can not justify what they do.
Check my spelling Mr chemical lover!

For full disclosure I do not work at the wood treatment plant. I have however studied environmental science and economics. I come from an education background that would normally mean I should hate NWP and want it to be closed down. I don't because I realize the logic behind the closing down of the wood treatment plant would do. Something you do not understand.

There is a term called necessary evil. Necessary evil means that its something that exists but with out it something worse would exist.
An example would be the coal required to make metal polls for Nevada and California would create a toxic gas cloud the size of of Texas. You think the smell from here is bad think about Pittsburgh the air would be highly toxic beyond PCP and diesel.

Another great example is how many people will leave silver springs if NWP closes down. I can guarantee the population would be under 500.

My final example is that the reserved logging area in Canada and other areas wouldn't be reserved houses would be built there meaning instead of replanted trees. which means we lose those forests forever.

If you claim to care about your environment don't be a hypocrite. this necessary evil may make a bad smell but it keeps worse things from happening. Things that would effect your quality of life.if the plant could be closed down with out major issues I would be with you but your flawed logic doesn't work no matter how you look at it.

Also if they tripled the amount of chemical used it would weaken the wood. See when you put water on piece of wood it swells, when you force water in to wood then suck it out it becomes less strong at a molecule level meaning that if you put in triple the chemical then sucked it all out at once it would make it 3 times weaker due to the increase and decrease in size. Chemistry knowledge wins out all.

Also don't space everything out like you have been it makes it hard to read. Your disregard for common internet and grammatical spacing spelling and punctuation makes you seem less educated. Put that together with your lack of new sentence and topic phrasing makes you seem like a troll. READ WHAT YOU WRITE BEFORE YOU PUT IT OUT. If you cannot read it and it sound like you are speaking from your heart it is not worthy of carrying your opinion. Basic journalism 101.

I have lived in the Springs for over 20 years, I think y'all are confusing the "odor" with what Vaquero Supplement produces when cooking product, that sweet, yucky, burnt kinda smell, its not NWP. Nevada Wood has not had any employees puking green, nor have any filed for any type of workman's comp related issues. Some of course may suffer from brain damage, but I think the insurance company would argue "pre-existing". Get your facts straight. Past employee stories are just that, disgruntled, can't show up for work, it must be the employer's fault stories. And what..... in the hell does that have to do with Village Market? I for one am glad to have Village Market, the owner and his employees are a great bunch, and have been there to help out the community, more than just being a market and a place to get gas. Just try calling some day, looking for a lost child or some other missing piece of information, see if they can help.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Scorpio

Something that you've always taken for granted or believed implicitly could have a big question mark hanging over it during the next few weeks. The more entrenched your views are about this, the more difficult it will be to accept that perhaps it's time for a change of opinion or, at the very least, a revaluation of what you think. Mercury turns retro in your house of communications, so do your best to be open-minded now.
