State to begin issuing IOUs

Full story: Long Beach Press-Telegram

California's controller will start paying many of the state's bills with IOUs as soon as Thursday after lawmakers failed to close the state's worsening budget deficit, adding a new measure of indignity to a state sinking deeper into dysfunction.

Wow, aren't we glad we got Grey Davis out of office so that this republican schmuck could screw things up! How long has he been in office? Funny how back when he was kissing GW's .a.ss., he was on the 'the economy is strong' band wagon, and now, shock and awe, it wasn't, and now we are realizing just how bad it was/is.

Anyone gotten a recent DMV renewal notice? I did, HOLY .S.H.I.T. You are in for a hell of a surprise.

How sad, how sad, in the end who are the ones who are going to be paying for this mess?
Is it those who are on Hospice Home Care?
Is it the Elderly who are in need of "In Home Assistance", some form of a Nursing Care?
Is it the Special Needs Population?
Is it the Students who have just graduated High School and heading to College?
Gee, to me it sounds as if it is all of the above. What ever happened to the Government Heads taking a dramitic pay cut, you know bring it down to what a normal citizen would make and take away ALL OF THEIR PERKS, like no frivilous anything and make them suffer with they same type of crapy medical insurance I have and pay the really high premiums I have? Lets withhold their pay for a month and see just how much money we can save rather then setting this down on the back of the less fortunate. Oh, yah, and better yet, dont pay them at all, Im sure they will suffice on what they already have. They obviousely dont seem concerned about us! Just a little thought...Hay Thanks Swartzeee...I did not vote for u.

Spending was less ten years ago than it was today, and yet the above groups were doing fine.

Michael, you said it correctly, they "were doing fine"......
You failed to realize that Insurace companies have cut back dramitically on Nursing Home Care, as well as Hospital Care, so the end result is to send a person home the same day as surgery or a few days there after, who still needs medical care.

Go check what party the current Governor is from and get back to me.

U voted Gray Davis out. Takes some responsibility, just this once, which I know IS REALLY hard for you republican types.

Nope, not blaming Bush, blaming Arnold, the current REPUBLICAN Governor who was drinking Bush's koolaid.

It hurts to be a Democrat nowadays, isn't it? It is just the beginning, wait to see how the people will feel in about one week after paying 9.75% sales tax increase. Just wait and see.
What's in store for ya'll is just the beginning. Because it will get all democrats as well after destroying the entire California economy.

You won't see the Republicans up in arms in the streets, picketing, like you do. You will FEEL it. It is YOUR president who put it so well: "It's the Economy, stupid". That is what is going to get you, as well.

Gray Davis got the boot because he was doing what the Democrats do the best: Raise Taxes.
The Democrats on the State Senate will have the same faith, soon. Go after Davis.

We will see what it s.cks to be like soon. In fact, I can see it right now, desperation oh, the desperation has begun.
You guys will not get tax increases no matter how you stomp and cry.
Step 1: Furloughs. Step 2: layoffs. Result: leaner, more efficient government.
It happened to bigger ones: Lehman Brothers, AIG, GM, and thousands and thousands more. It will happen to you too.
People will suffer, but this time it will be worth the pain and the wait.

I've got a great idea. Let's continue to scream about how much we hate the Left or the Right instead of holding the Legislature responsible for the greatest single betrayal of citizen/taxpayers in American History.

Yeah. That's the ticket!!!!

Sounds like California Legislatures need to follow Nevada Legiislators, they only meet every two years for a short peroid of time and they go back to their regular jobs. If their not there they can not dream up new ways to spend your money.

Wow, you guys are pathetic. Except for the second to last poster. We need to deal with this issue as angry constituents. The truth is, some of us helped put us into this mess, while others had no part in it.

Should we get mad at the ones who did put us in this mess? No, because that will do nothing. For once, don't blame other people and get something ****ing done force once in your lives. What is bickering going to do at a time like this? You want to bicker, than get the **** out of this country because you're a worthless piece of **** that's going to help drag this country and most of all: this state into the ******.

Having our state hand out IOU's will be worthless and will eventually close down commerce to the state of California very soon. So if you want to bicker, go right ahead, but I'm thinking about what's truly important. You self-righteous, pompous individuals.

Some of us who have deep roots in California are heartbroken by California's demise as a rational choice as a place to raise a family.

I was stunned to see that a month after LA Magazine's Cover Photo of Villagairosa with a banner......FAILURE!...across the photo......he was sworn in for yet another 4 year term yesterday.

I voted Dem all my life. Does anyone know exactly when the State Party became the enemy of the citizens and the State?????

The secret to getting out of this mess the whole world is in right now is to stop calling names and blaming any particular political party. We need to stop listening to empty campaign promises from any of the parties and do our research before we cast our votes. Politicians lie. We need to realize that.

Welp, that's it. We are done for. We can't do any of the above. We are simply not capable. It would entail taking some responsibility and we just cannot do that.

Might as well put your hands in the air and enjoy the roller coaster ride we are on. And no - there will be no stopping so you can get off. We are all in this for the duration.

You are right unfortunately. I had a cousin who ran for local public office many years ago. One of his issues was to encourage voters to study the issues and the expenditures vs the budget. By law they are in the public record. He lost.

Why can't Sacramento and the "vote for a living" crowd cut spending like the rest of us are doing?
