So you all think that a possible theft of garden tools warrants murder? Sounds like you all are just itching to start blasting away, with only the barest of excuses.(And no, I am not in favor of removing gun ownership from citizens.)

This is not murder! Its self defense! The man was trespassing in a ranch neighborhood to thieve. Do you think he was going to pet the horses at 3:30am? If this happened to every thief, crime would dramatically drop. If the victim ran to his phone to call the cops first, the thief would have gotten away, and would have done the same thing to another person. I appreciate the community service Farmer John.

Can you say escalation? The shooter was not in danger, his house was not being invaded. He heard noise outside in an area detached from his house, and instead of calling the cops first, went and gunned down an acquaintance for stealing tools.

If the thief had gotten away... wow... some tools would be missing. In place of missing tools, and a perfectly credible witness who could have identified the burglar, we have a murder. In your post you imply that calling the police was an improper impediment to a perfectly good shooting.

this is a perfect example of why i am glad i no longer live in calif. ever hear of the castle doctrine? basically it states you have the right to protect your self and your property from invasion. we here in kentucky live by it, and it works, check the crime statistics and you will see that states that have the castle doctrine have lower crime rates. criminals know they are apt to be shot and killed i concealed carry a firearm all the time and have several loaded guns in my home, come steal from me and die.
