As reported last week on the Ray Hall show, Mr. Leathers was the BPU board’s choice for new General Manager, a position he had been filling since late may 2007. The choice for Mr. Leathers was not unanimous, there were 4 holdouts (or the mayor and his lackeys).
After the board’s recent failures with hiring outside the local community they were poised to do the right thing and hire locally, putting a less arrogant, friendly face on the BPU leadership.
Later last week Mr. Leather met with the Mr. Teresi, Mr. Lehman and two other recently appointed Democratic City Councilmen (both of which have yet to be appointed BPU board members). They proceeded to gang up on and berate Mr. Leathers saying that the process has been rushed and they felt there was not enough time to evaluate the candidates and the process to find a new GM would be delayed indefinitely. Mr. Leather has since withdrawn his name from consideration.

Rushed? Back in June the Mayor and the BPU board said it was their intention to have the position filled by the end of 2007.
The cut off for candidates was in August of 2007 and shortly after that, it was narrowed down to less than five. Those that were actually interviewed were secretly escorted through the BPU and were forbidden to interact with BPU personnel.
The mayor’s plan is to place someone in the BPU GM position the he can control or worse abolish the BPU board and place it under the city councils control.

If you think the rate are going to increase with the building of the new power plant, just what until Sam has the rubber stamp. The BPU will be funding the retirement packages for the fire and police and purchasing new vehicles for DPW.

(Side note: Recently the BPU lost its TD&D supervisor because he was tired of being threatened by Mr. Lehman and Mr. Teresi for not succumbing to there demands that he answer directly to them. i.e. complete tasks might exceed capital project fund levels.(Capital projects require the BPU board approval and are directed by the BPU General Manager.)

Well, word has it that Sam has succeeded in blocking Mr. Leathers. Of the three candidates “Sam’s Board” has rejected the two remain applicants and the third refused to be Sam’s “Bitch” and withdrew his name.

So back to the drawing board, more than a year without a general manager not to mention other key position within the BPU that can’t/won’t be filled until the GM position is filled.

In the meantime the BPU is hemorrhaging it quality personnel but I’m sure that part of his plan. So he can place his spineless, adulteress, slather-asses in key positions.

Say good by to the good old days of 9% electric and 19% water TEP payments, that just wont do when you have Police and Fire retirement benefits and DPW vehicles to pay for.

correction - sam has stolen the gm position! last night the city council made the bpu gm position a city official by an amendment to the city charter. This gives the mayor sole authority over the gm and bpu and completely removes the checks and balances established in the original chartering of the bpu. Wake up customers in Falconer and Ellicott - MRC, Valeo, Bush - Sam is taking control to get as much money as possible fromt he bpu to the city - this will effect your electric rates!!!!!

Get hard against the hollow, get deep against the shallow.

Jamestown is worth fighting for and not a teat to be milked dry.
