Fairview "Christians"

Before I moved to Fairview, I had a pretty good opinion formed about "Christians". I've always been taught that to be a Christian means to strive to be like Christ (ask WWJD), love people, do the right thing. It has been my experience that when someone introduces themselves as "Hi, I'm a Christian", this person is either 1) abusing their children, 2)cheating on a spouse, 3)talking bad about others as a hobby, 4) has a drug or alcohol problem, or 5)hates everyone around them. The most "Christian"-like people I've known tend to not announce it. You see that they love people, respect all people, hold their religious beliefs as something dear, not a weapon, easily forgive. Fairview seems to have a HUGE population of "I'M a CHRISTIAN's" who use it as a shield (like "don't judge ME, look at HIM!") Has anyone else experienced this? Is it the lack of education? Is there a bad preacher around here? How do we change that?

There are good people here in Fairview- I love this community!!!! As far as what you say about the "Christians" - It really doesn't matter what you think ... all you can do is set an example and be kind, loving and giving to all our brothers and sisters no matter what!!! Make a DIFFERENCE and do something...

I know what you are talking about, when I moved here I met one of my neighbors who right off the bat told me how her and her family were good christians. In the following three years I was subjected to threats, vandalism, slander as well as stalking from this very good christian lady. Don't get me wrong, being a christian is a good thing but I understand what you are saying about people using it as a weapon, my ex neighbor, she has been gone (moved)for 7 months now, used Christ as a front for all her dark evil ways. Most people around here found her odd but I don't think many knew just who she was. There is alot of narcissistic people in this world and just because someone says they are christian please pay attention to what they say and do, how they treat you. Believe me I know!

Anyone anywhere can use the "badge" of Christianity to try and achieve their own agenda. It's a HUGE reason that people are not drawn to Christ--they don't like what they see in His followers. The real Jesus was(and is) caring, compassionate, empathetic, graceful and merciful. Anyone not living like this is not following Him in a true sense.
Having said that,I must say that Fairview has lots of people through whom the light of Christ shines into a dark world.None of us are perfect and often fall short of our goal to walk this life out in great love for ALL.(that's why we need the mercy and grace!!!)
