Funny. Why not set up public works programs like they did during the depression? Pick up all the trash in erie. Mow the grass, clean up the peninsula beaches. There are so many things that need done that these people would be happy to be making minimum wage to do. When you raise someones self esteem, it tends to snowball. Is that what they are afraid of?

Obama had the chance to be another FDR. Instead he surrounded himself with the same wall street crooks whose rigged gambling casino crashed the economy.

There are plenty of min wage jobs. Is that really what you want? Minimum wage? Obama is pandering to the "won't work" demographic.
No "public works" jobs, but the "disability" rolls are exploding.
THAT'S what his voters want: money for nothing!

It is true there are some who would rather siton their ass. However, I have seen crowds show up at labor ready at 5 a.m. and wait till 9 a.m. and only 4 or 5 got to work for minimumwage that day. All they want is a chance to work and have some kind of self respect. You guys must not get out much latelyto see whatis going on. Sadly most of them don't vote or understand politics, they are too busy trying to stay alive.

Public works in the depression built things like the Hoover Dam. Our infrastructure is falling apart. China has already begun building ahigh speed national rail system, they are no doubt laughing their asses off at us wal mart shoppers.

In February, the Congressional Budget Office published its latest report on the "estimated impact" of the stimulus.
Although it had originally estimated the stimulus would cost $787 billion, CBO now says it will cost $831 billion.
In the second quarter of 2012, CBO estimates, somewhere between 200,000 to 1.2 million people have jobs they otherwise would not have were it not for the stimulus.
Assuming, optimistically, that the number is 1.2 million, that means each of those jobs cost taxpayers $692,500.
As time goes on, the maximum number of jobs sustained by Obama's stimulus will decline rapidly.
By the first quarter of 2013, it will sustain between 100,000 and 600,000 jobs, says CBO.
If it is 600,000, each of those jobs will have cost taxpayers $1,385,000.
By the fourth quarter of 2013, the maximum number of jobs it sustains will be 400,000 at a cost to taxpayers of $2,077,500 per job.
It is true that Obama entered office in the midst of a deep recession.
But, according to the National Bureau of Economic Research, that recession ended in June 2009, almost three years ago.
While you may have all the numbers they are deceiving. While I doubt the government paid anyone 2 million dollars for a job, even if they did, good. Because what the economy needs isn't static numbers, it needs money circulating. The rich right-wingers were lying when they said if we give them money they would stimulate the economy. They hoarded it instead which is exactly what hurts the economy.

Though Tim's idea of paying minimum wage to get homeless people working seems nonsensical I think it has merit. We certainly aren't going to pay the homeless $65K a year to sweep streets but anything is better than nothing.

But the real benefit is that it gets money circulating. Broke people are simply more likely to circulate money than those saving for some projected future. Circulating money is what our economy is based on and no other thing will work in it's place.

Wrong again. Obama has pumped trillions in to the economy, through spending, lending and printing. The results have been a stagnant economy burdened by massive debt and inflation that's going to continue to get worse.
Mindlessly "circulating" money has not and will not create productive jobs.
Your ideas have failed, you stupid left winger.

There's probably no reliable way to measure what might have been if we had done the opposite. We might be better off or in a depression. But you can't deny that the circulation of money, not hiding it under your mattress, is the key to our economy. Oh wait. You just did.

PS worse case scenario inflation has fluctuated, not just increased so all things being equal it's under control.

Nobody "hides money in a mattress". The "rich" invest it. Stop making up "facts" to bolster your losing argument.
All of your economic ideas have been tried and failed.
Man up and own it.
We can never have a successful economy based on subsidizing nonproductive activities and people, and taxing or prohibiting successful people and productive endeavors.
Why pay people to pick up trash you should pick up on your own?
Every hundred dollars invested in green energy produces less than a hundred dollars worth of power.
Drive your jitney and leave the thinking to those of us who can do it.
BTW, how do you like GE's high deductible health plan? Thank obamacare and your union for that.
Idiot.

1)Every one? You sure? When did Obama get everything implemented in exactly the way he wanted regarding the economy?
2)A)If they are picking up trash or doing other work they are NOT non-productive. Also, if it leads to character development, it may be worth it.(For example, no subsidies for the homeless in such jobs if they have an addiction. If the make-work job is pride enhancing enough they may change...which is what such jobs should be largely about--an opportunity to change and be a part of something bigger.
B) But YOURS is the mantra that says if you can't compete you deserve to fail so quit the whining about the circumstances.
3) And every mile of track on the transcontinental railroad did absolutely nothing, except the last one. Some investments only pay off in time. BTW the reason much government works aren't helpful is because there is always an opposite side that will fight it tooth and nail.(i.e. teabag republicans) Imagine trying to run a successful endeavor where your workers put up roadblocks and contradicted everything you tried to accomplish.
4) I can leave the union anytime I wish if I can't stand what they do. As to my healthcare, I don't use it. I did use the $5000 signing bonus from the last contract though. That's a lot of beer bucko.

1 The claim that Obama failed because he isn't a dictator is asinine. You gave him dictatorial powers and he has gotten everything he wanted, including the results.
Don't be an idiot, desperate, helpless, unemployed citizens are his bread and butter.
2 Look at Erie. The refuse department picks up trash. The streets dept picks up trash as does the parks dept!! LOL Why is there any trash left in Erie???
B Don't tell me MY mantra! I don't say the things you fantasize.(You always make up facts to bolster your failed arguments. Lol)
3 The railroad was built with private money. Obamas pixie dust and unicorn horn energy scheme will never provide enough energy at current cost to power this nation. Prove me wrong.
4 GE knows what Obama did to healthcare and they are passing the cost on to you. Your union supported the law that screwed your HC benefits. Get ready for $30,000 deductible!
Idiot.

Fail. The transcontinental railroad was not built with private capital.

The land was supplied by the federal government. The project was financed by the govt. The robber Barron's of the time weren't that stupid.

Read a damn history book some time, or you will repeat their mistakes.

Hey Funkycheese,
1) I didn't say he failed because he was a dictator. I said he didn't get everything he wanted and claiming his policies failed is to speak a half-truth. Same with his successes.(Of course if things are better than before we tend not to care.)
2)A) Talk to yourself. You're the one who claimed people should pick up after themselves--yet now you claim there's no need for additional trash pick-up. Smells like funkycheese to me. BTW missed the A) there analboy.
B) I don't even know you. I think I posted something on a thread. But are you claiming you DON'T believe in the bottom line of personal responsibility? Dude, white collar or not, back away from the crack pipe.
3) Quote where Obama said we would power all the energy of the nation solely with the efforts put forth now...as in the beginning stages. URDumIMO.
4) I'm an oddity in this sense I'm sure, but I chose the cheapest insurance that made the greatest return to me and know what? I haven't been to the doctor at all this year and didn't fill any prescriptions. Guess high cholesterol didn't kill me after all. Been drinking $5000 worth of beer like a champ though. haHaHa.

PS that's "idiot" savant to you.
