Erie , PA locomotive workers at GE. Which Union represents you? The plant in Ft Worth is turning down many soon to be laid off American Airlines, Lockhhed, and Railroad employees, because rumor has it they want it to be a scab plant. Does the Union in Erie have any plans to unionize this plant? There is supposedly some people who are interested. I am not sure if it is the Teamsters or Transport Workers union. You guys had better get on the ball or you will end up like the Peterbilt plant in Tennessee! Look what they did there and moved the jobs a few miles from the ne GE plant in Texas.

if our government wast ripping us off so bad, things wouldnt be so expensive that you would even need a union.
the upper management of GE pays themselves 9 figure millions, but they want you to work for $3.50 per hour.

Just answer the question with legitimate answers not smart ass ones. This is a serious business. You have a guy that wants to get this plant to be like Erie after they shut it down, help get this plant going so we can move their and make $$$! We need to Unionize it!

Get real down there in Texas, you live in a right to work(right to get screwed)state, you won't be unionized any time soon. The Local union in Erie Pa. can't organize you anyhow. Sounds like the typical "I hate unions" mantrauntil you start getting hosed at work and realize the value of a union.
Good luck down three in Texas, keep voten in them thar Red Neck Republicans who's all for them family values and guns!

The right to work states still have unions. All it means is that if you get hired at a union shop then you have the right to work there without being in the union. Texas will be a flop. As soon as the guys in Ft Worth realize that Erie is paying double, they will become disgruntled! Only a matter of time.

It's only a matter of time until GE pulls out of Erie. Once that happens you can turn out the lights because Erie will be a ghost town.

No Wonder GE wants to shut down Erie, with the above idiot comments like jra182, and tacks! All of those companies the other poster mentioned are Union and if hired on at any any Airline then it is a closed shop and you must join the union. Same with the Railroad...you cant opt out....its part of your employment. Boy you people net to get educated on the RLA, AFL-CIO, RTW, etc. You people are so stupid that you are losing jobs to a state behind Mississippi in education!

And to the dumb sob above that commented that the Union cannot represent Texas workers, boy you are dumb, because the TWU is already getting a card drive together because the EU is too busy sitting on butts! That one American Airlines maintenance base is shutting down soon and the employees who are not going to move to Tulsa are applying and planning to get the Transport Workers to organize. The EU will be losing dues!

It's UE, as in United Electrical. Not EU as you stated. I guess all those other posters you mentioned aren't the only uninformed ones.

Yes, the union has a drive on, but Texas is a "right to work" state. They can't force you to join the union as terms of employment. the union has limited power in TX...not like PA where the union controls the business.

Here is some food for thought. If the UE does pull off a successful card drive, the new local in Ft Worth will probably be careful as to the amount of work they take from Erie. Also, Erie will be noticing a lot more piece parts being farmed out so erie workers won't notice them going out the door on skids with a Ft Worth shipping label.

They UE wont have a chance in Ft Worth. It is a tough Union area for rival unions, and yes they are going to have the jump on both the locomotive and mining plants.

Food for thought .....
Once, Unionized worker once numbered about 39% of the private sector workforce but has steadily declined.
As of January 27, 2012 all of the American labor force only had union representation of 11.7%. when public sector employees "government workers" are taken out of the mix only 6.9% of private sector workers are unionized. That is only 1 out of about 15 workers!
Clearly the message being sent by Unions today is falling on deaf ears.......I think Union workers should find out why before trying to organize more non-members in drives where chances for success are slim to none.
