hope it's worth the tax dollars that went to build it....and the gas for the patrols also.
Seem like one big fat duplication of safety, lock-up facility. Seems this building should have been closer to the water / boarder, not on I-90 in plain view of anyone (??)

So you've never driven by the Federal Maximum Prison in Colorado? It's amazing and in plain site.

What?!?!?!?

Apparently, you're picturing a giant duck blind that should be camouflaged and closer to the water to lure them in right off the boat. ROFL!!

TWTL.. that was good comment, road sign.. watch for illegals crossing ahead! Might help, like deer crossing! Duck blind would have been under budget!
Waht.. never been out that way, do they have an interstate, thousands of cars and trucks a day leading to mostly populated areas going right by the joint?:>)We do.

I watched an episode of "Frontline World" on iTunes yesterday. It was called "Mexico: Crimes at the Border." It was a story on human smuggling and the corrupt border guards who allow carload after carload of smuggled Mexicans to cross the border unchecked. For the right price, the guards just let them in without knowing if they are letting in drug dealers, murderers, rapists, terrorists, etc...

On any given day, one customs agent allowed hundreds of illegals to enter unchecked.

He made hundreds of thousands of dollars and was only sentenced 5 years for it. He'll have a nice retirement waiting for him when he gets out.

So much for the Border Patrol.

And you going to toss out the entire BP because of a few bad apples?? Name one organization that doesnt have a few bad apples in them, you cant judge and entire agency by a count that fits on your hand.

"the agents have operated out of the cruise ship terminal on Erie's bayfront, space that costs the government nearly $10,000 a month to rent".

"the Fairview facility, which will cost the government $68,249 a month to rent over the next 20 years".

"Even after the move to Fairview, Customs and Border Protection will continue to lease a section of the (current) building, for $6,310 a month, for its air and marine services".

Nice. The cost to lease facilities goes from $10,000 per month to $74,559 per month?

If you know all the procedures, and have a few like minded friends in the right places, and are discreet enough, and not too greedy, you don't become part of the count. Money corrupts even the heroic, pedestal occupying, saints of our law enforcement system.

My thoughts exactly! The cliches 'ducks on the pond' and 'fish in a barrel' come to mind. Would make for great target practice.

You can't put a price on safety. I for one sleep much better knowing the bp is only minutes from my home in case of a mexican or al-qeda(sic) invasion along the bayfront.

I guess with a name like Oppenheimer you would know.
The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits. A question that sometimes drives me hazy: am I or are the others crazy?
Albert Einstein
By the way, for the uneducated, the Customs and Border Protection Officers that work at the Ports of Entry and Border Patrol Agents are two different agencies. When Border Patrol Agents arrest illegals and find out that they were allowed to enter through the Port of Entry by a corrupt CBP Officer the BP Agents are the ones that report them and have them investigated and prosecuted.
