Very good and heartfelt letter. A s I said before, I grew up in Girard and have many memories of the Gudgenville bridge and the folk lore that surround it and the area. Who cannot forget the Gudgenville hermit, and the old man with his mule, Gone. Hope they catch these loosers and rebuild a replica bridge.

Yes it sad that it's gone but rebuilding it as it was would never be the same. The Gudgenville bridge is gone. Rebuilding as it was would be a waste of taxpayers money. Maybe now the the ghost will rest in peace.

I read the article in the paper the other day. But a friend emailed me pictures of the bridge this morning. It really hit hard when you see the bridge from all angles so destroyed. Does history mean nothing anymore? Its what made us what we are, its who we were and what we accomplished. Its something a community must have took such pride int. The people who built this bridge would be so devasted. Just to think of the time and effort it must have took the men who cut and split the wood, and planned the structure, and the days and fun they probably had working on it. And the accomplishment and pride they must have felt when finished. Alot of people have good memories there for many reasons, but the men and community who witnessed it are probably rolling over in their graves. It was a beautiful piece of our history and its a sad day when we destroy something with so much history and beauty. i would love to be chosen for the jury for the sentencing of whomever did this!

As a juror you could only say they are guilty or not. I would rather be the judge. I would sentence them to rebuilding the bridge to the standard that it was and make them do it with with their own money

These culprits, when they are caught, need to be held fully accountable. Make them pay for the replacement cost of the bridge. Hopefully it will ruin them financially...if they are minors make the parents pay. Then throw them in jail for at least 5-10 years.

what is happening on the bridge? did they tear it down like rumor says they were going to do..
Anyone live near it to let us know if anything is shaking out there? The bridge effort doesn't look to be drawing very much interest... 68 people can't get a bridge built. ahh out with the old... hate to see a piece of history gone.. poof and darn people with matches and no consciences.
