I'm trying to find out if it is true that 52 horses are being killed because their owner died, and the son wants nothing to do with them.

52 thouroughbred horses with papers will be sent to slaughter on Saturday 2/05/2011 if homes cannot be found for them before then!

An older gentleman died and his son wants nothing to do with the horses. Offered FREE WITH PAPERS-broodmares, foals, yearlings, 2-3 year olds, some geldings, etc. You just provide transportation from Barnesville, OH!

Please call four four oh-463-four two eight eight and give some (or all)of these horses a second chance!

This is running around Facebook, and I'm just trying to confirm. Surely someone at the local newspaper knows who this person is, and if this might be true.

This is true, though it has been said that they have all be rescued by Dream something or other. I am trying to confirm this.

I called the number and it said all the horses had been rescued and not to leave a message. Would still like to confirm that it was not a hoax though.

Feel free to crosspost this. LuAnn

From: LuAnn Here are the facts. A friend of mine and her husband worked for Dr. Stearns for over 33 yrs.. The postings all over the internet are a gross exageration of the situation and a name and other things were added that are not true. My friend has known the vet for over 40 years since she was a little girl. He was a wonderful person. How sad he would be if he were alive to hear all the rumors and untrue words.

None of these horses are going to slaughter - NONE. Do not contact anyone on these posts or at the phone #. As you can see below - look how things get out of hand - post after post and it's all over the net in different countries. So here it is. You can do right by this by crossposting and getting the facts out.

Upon the Dr's death, the farm was to be closed (his wishes), and he left instructions on the placement of the horses - previous owners were contacted and given horses back if they choose to take them or horses have been placed in suitable homes (agreeable to the previous owners and deemed suitable homes), employees could also take the horses. Many horses were raised and raced and were retired on the farm. All previous owners were contacted (including people that posted originally). The horses have already gone to homes and they are keeping track of all the paperwork. This vet was a wonderful and kind person and he saved many horses that were retired race horses, used for breeding etc. that their previous owners no longer wanted and were destined for slaughter. I believe he bought some. He also worked with rescue groups too at various times. There's more to the story, but all good and none of these horses were ever in danger. So don't worry - the horses are happy!!

NOT ONE HORSE WAS EVER GOING TO SLAUGHTER. IT WOULD BE NICE IF IN THE FUTURE WE ALL THINK BEFORE WE CLICK THAT FORWARD BUTTON OR COPY AND PASTE. FIND OUT THE FACTS FIRST FROM OTHERS, NOT JUST ONE PERSON. MANY PEOPLE ARE VERY HURT AND UPSET ABOUT THIS.

In addition, no relationship has been verified between Lynn Boggs and the Stearns family.

Drafty Barns Rescue claims they took 12 of the 52 horses, and are friends of Lynn Boggs.
If you link to http://www.frogpondfarmdrafts.com and go to the disclaimer at the bottom of the page, there is disturbing info about that rescue. Click on the "channel 3 Cleveland news footage", and you see the owner of Drafty Barns Rescue (she's the blonde woman). The fate of these 12 horses will probably not be good.:-(

People who knew Dr. Stearns are starting to come forward. None of them know who Lynn Boggs is, and they're callin her story nothing short of a malicious lie!
With a little research on Dr. Stearns, you can find a strong connection to the community, including the Cleveland Mounted Police, and various other horse communities.
People who know him have stated that all of his horses were being placed before his passing, and that none of his horses ever faced slaughter.
It's a terrible shame that some nut job made this good man and his son appear to be uncaring irresponsible horse owners.
This is the story that deserves to be told.
