I just drove past there last night and they are building something, looks like something nice too, not just a place to store the old cleanup junk.

I was so excited when I seen a building getting constructed over there. It's an armory NOT a water park. I guess the ocean is looking closer every day - eventually way may fall in. ha ha ha
How would anyone know what is being built there unless you are working on it's construction? Why isn't there more news about what's being built in our town?

Nothing will or was ever going to be constructed as a water park! If you remember the three buisnessmen that were going to develop the park were given around two million dollars to do so and everybody wanders where the park is? Where is the two million dollars? That's my question!

Even if it is built, I doubt it'll have any senior therapy pools.

is it going to open or not? have they even started building it? I have been watch for 2 years for this to have some update, first it was due to be open in 2008, and then one website said spring 2010. its almost spring 2011 and nothing. Can anyone tell me if they are at least building it? Thanks
i dont think they are going to go through with this because i think the ran out of money and plus they probably wont continue without LOTS of donations.

Never gonna happen! They got what they really wanted ... coal. Sold it for a nice profit and walked away. Fairmont, you were duped again!!

A couple years ago there was talk that the company that planned to build the park could not secure enough funding in the timeframe allowed. So they abandoned the project.

[email protected] ent.com is the email address listed as a contact for VOLCANO ISLAND and their website is http://www.volcanoislandresort.com/contactUs.... I just stumbled on the website when looking for waterparks and then googled volcano island and found this topix - so I emailed then to see if they will respond with any information - I live in Charleston - I see the last post was 6 months ago - has any construction gone on up there or has anyone heard anything about "Volcano Island" since then ? It would be awesome to have a park like this in WV

Just to close the loop on this... I haven't heard anything about the waterpark in Fairmont for years. I stumbled across their old website and it brought back memories. CJ Maggies opened and closed shortly thereafter. Pufferbelly's is open, and has been for a while, but it never seems to be very busy. It is really sad to see so many businesses come and go in Fairmont. There is also a newer Mexican restaurant in the plaza where the old Shop n Save closed called Dos Hermanos II. I ate there the other day, and had to wonder how long it would be open since it was very slow even at dinner time. I would love to have some variety in the choice of restaurants, and some healthy grocery choices like a Whole Foods or something. I'm not intelligent enough to say what the problem is or what steps should be taken to improve things. One of the previous posters may be on to something though, when they said that no one wants to see Fairmont grow because that would mean more people and more traffic.
