I am a local 550 officer and the Hospital Administration has been meeting with both unions very recently and BOTH unions are working together and willing do do WHATEVER we can. I have lived in this community my whole life so I am also friends with Butch (who wrote the letter). I personally love my job, care about my coworkers, the patients we care for and MY COMMUNITY Hospital.

The letter in today's paper was written by a fine, upstanding member of the community who has put years into trying to make Fairmont and Marion County better in every way. He was in a position to know very specific details of what is happening at the hospital and has been very worried about the course the new BOD/President has been taking for FGH. This is more that just about jobs. Imagine having a heart attack in Mannington, Rachel, Fairview, etc and trying to get to Ruby, Mon, or UHC. The time it would take to get help to your home, stabilize you, and get you transported to FGH is long enough, now add 30-45 more minutes to that trip and we're talking about whether or not you will live or die. If you have a stroke you have a limited amount of time to have certain procedures done to limit the damage and save your life. Losing the jobs and the income the hospital brings is horrible but people will lose their lives because it took longer to get to an emergency room. Think about the woman who goes into labor and now has to drive 30-45 more minutes to deliver.

I know FGH hasn't always had a stellar reputation in the community regarding patient care; however, urban legends aside, FGH has been a staple in our family for years. My family has doctors who care for patients there whom I would send anyone to see for care. The hospital has saved lives of my family members.

We need to keep what's ours here in Fairmont. We've already surrendered our shopping centers to Bport and Mgtn, let's not also surrender our medical care.

Furthermore, we can only hope that the Times West Virginan does us all due diligence; however, you have to wonder if the editors are not intertwined with the management and CEO of the hospital. Perhaps The Dominion Post who doesn't have much of a dog in this figt should take the lead and really do this story justice. Just as some don't trust FGH, I don't trust TWV.

Didn't the woman from the union that spoke to the press Saturday say that she doesn't consider it "down sizing but right sizing"? I hope your job isn't "right sized" liked those who have been let go only to have their jobs outsourced for people from outside the state! Think for yourself and don't put all your trust in union reps!

I have lived in Fairmont for most of my life, some 30+ years and I have to say, I'm very upset that the community is not taking an active part in seeking information regarding FGH and it's struggle to stay open. How is it that FGH can pay the CFO to live at South Pointe while the hospital can't even pay its vendors? He and the CEO are able to own their own planes - so do you think they may be getting paid a little too much?? The BOD's have been allowing outsiders to come in and rule our community hospital, when it should be kept as close to home as possible. The CEO lives in Pennsylvania, the CFO lives in Florida - which is why he's been getting his rent paid by FGH since he's been here, the VP of Human Resources is from Texas, and the new Housekeeping supervisor is imported from California...and making $30,000 more approx. than the last supervisor. FGH is so top heavy with management, yet the cuts they make come from service workers. Why not cut 1 or 2 of the 3 supervisors in lab? Or the 2 in purchasing for 1 employee? Or cut a few salaries in management and see who's left standing? There are so many $ saving ideas that should be as plain as the nose on their faces, but instead, they opt to cut the little man and keep the big wigs. Wow. It will be a huge blow to this community if we are left without a hospital. But it will be our fault entirely for letting this happen. Remember the days when all the local unions supported us? The strike in the 80s brought out so much local support from the UMWA and other union supporters. What's happened to that community interest? We're talking about family and friends here...a place where they know your name and know who your family is...and actually cares about you. What happens when that's gone and it's replaced by Geriatric psych or some other facility that only serves a select few? Do you really want to go to UHC or Ruby? I've been to both places and neither one impressed me all that much. The care and customer service at FGH is much better and personally, I'd hate to lose that just because noone wants to man up and take action and make some of the "higher-ups" accountable for the actions...or lack of action we should say. Let's all do what we can to keep FGH in our community and our community involved in FGH.

I am also a concerned citizen as well I agree that rub y is going to buy out fairmont general as they have already acquired came Clark and st Joe in parkersburg we all need to rapt together to get these out of state people out of our local hosp. The only thing they are accomplishing is to run our local hosp in the ground.

@Unbelievable, it's called loyalty. There doesn't seem to be any anymore. You're correct.....where ARE the other unions? Maybe now, thanks to the letter today, they'll get involved. More letters to the paper should be written, too. If more people get involved, they (FGH administration) can't hide! Our representatives, Caputo, Longstreth (sp.?) and Manchin, should look into it. Wonder if they know what's in the works up there? Maybe it's time to show these people at the hospital that WVians stick together!

Really r the people in the community actually going to stand back for the shady dealing at fairmont general. The hospital needs to get rid of the CEO and get a community member that really cares about what happens here to run the place instead of letting it go to the dogs. Bring back the good doctors that cared about how the patient was feeling and gave good care to them and let the docs go that have run off our patients that should speak for itself

Not very proactive "everyone SAVE our hospital" It's a little late to show concern. What has been done is done, the wheels are already turning.
