FirstEnergy wants to transfer ownership of the Harrison Power Station from its Ohio subsidiary to its West Virginia subsidiaries, Mon Power & Potomac Edison. To pay for this $1.1 billion transfer, they propose to raise electric rates by 6%(on top of the 46% rise in electric rates West Virginians have seen since 2007).

A better alternative is for FirstEnergy to create thousands of jobs and lower our bills by aggressively expanding their energy efficiency programs such as energy audits, weatherizing houses and businesses, installing programmable thermostats, and much more.

Do we need another rate increase to bail out corporate stockholders in Ohio, especially when FirstEnergy is slashing worker pay and benefits at the Harrison plant? Or should we lower electric bills and create jobs with efficiency?

Join us to explore these and related issues, to find out what you can do, and to take immediate action at a public forum on April 4th.

Guest Speakers Include:

* Byron Harris, the West Virginia Consumer Advocate within the WV Public Service Commission explaining the FirstEnergy proposal and what it could mean for West Virginians.

* Jim Kotcon, the Conservation Chair of the WV Sierra Club speaking on the Optimal Energy report showing thousands of WV jobs can be created in energy efficiency.

* Martin Schaffer, a former Clarksburg City Councilman speaking on the impact this proposal would have on Clarksburg area residents.

The Presentation will be followed by a question and answer session. This event is sponsored by North Central Democracy for America & the WV Chapter of the Sierra Club.
